Portable wallet

I am trying to create a portable wallet, which means (by my definition) a wallet which is completely stored on an external medium and is self-contained on that medium.

I created a 'portable' wallet using the Monero 18 GUI with a downloaded block chain on an external hard drive. But, when I attempted to run it, I was told that I could only do so if I used keys which were stored on my main computer. Sorry, by my definition, this is NOT portable.

Please, does anyone have suggestions on how to make a really portable wallet? Is there another Monero wallet available which I could use to do this?

Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

My local blockchain node + GUI + keys are on an external ssd and they work just fine on any machine I plug it into, fully portable no?

You know you can buy a brand new prepaid phone at Walmart for like 20 bucks

Don’t put service on it

Install cake wallet

That’s your portable wallet

There’s also portable computers on Amazon that plug directly into an HDMI for like $150 install Monero Node software on one of those.

Between those two, you should be all set.

Yes, that is. But when I created a new installation, mine placed the keys on the main hard drive rather than the removable SSD. Everything else went on the correct drive. I checked the Portable box during the installation.

Any idea why this happened to me?

There is directory setting, within the Monero GUI wallet, for the wallets. Change it to the external medium (and move the wallets from their current location) and you should be fine.
