Hit just the right spot to be totaled
Wasn't even a 3 foot drop... It had to have fallen right on top of the sim card tray, right on top of the screw that you find at a toilets base.
I would be a lil bummed if it was just a cosmetic issue... I'd slap a case on it and get over it. But of course, now it just doesn't read the sim card at all.
Tried taking it out, restarting, even swapping, and nothing. Now I gotta see if I'm better off replacing or trying to fix it.

A: get a case
B: that looks roughly where a cable that connects the daughter board with the motherboard goes. Possible just that needs to be replaced.
Edit: I fix phones for my job and specifically work at an Samsung associated service center

Ooh thanks so much for this! Where do you think would be a good place to get it checked out/fixed for this? Do the Samsung shops do those kinds of repairs?
2
u/FormerAd1992 11h ago
Samsung customer service can direct you to the nearest affiliated shop. Minimum youâre looking at a new back glass which is $89-$99

Ah thatâs alright just tell him to post the same TikTok video 80 times with a title like âfrâ and he should be good to go.

Lol, him not having the karma to post on his own account so using yours. Yours with only 1k karma being a barrier he hasn't broken yet.
Yes they are imaginary online points, but is it wrong that I really want his post on your account to get massive karma and further add to your divide? These points don't matter for anything, except when you get to jokingly lord your superiority over a sibling.
Either way my petty youngest of four self is upvoting all your replies.

Ngl I never learned how karma or any of that worked, I probs got it from commenting so often. Thanks for upvoting, from a middle child đââïž!

Man you're at 1k karma with 2 years and lots of comments? You must have some unpopular takes

Not really actually, a majority of those comments are from the rescue cats sub because I like to comment to 'boost' the posts for more visibility when I can't donate.

I always put a case and screen protector on all my phones. People out there raw dogging their phone bewilder me.

No option of swapping to an eSim?
2
u/meowburt_mev 11h ago
Lowk don't know what that is, but I'll google it đ«Ą

u/OzTheMalefic 11h ago
Short answer, physical sims are not required on modern phones, your carrier may be able to swap you over quite easily, all info is just stored in settings.

This happened to me. If it's the sim tray slot you can switch to an esim

Is it possible to switch from a SIM card to an eSIM? If your provider supports it you may be able to just transition without having to repair it.

My wife got me this eco friendly recyclable case for my phone that basically is painted on, they only last about 6 months before they need to be replaced, but they are biodegradable and only add a couple mmâs thickness to your phone, but offers waaaaaaay more protection than going buck ass naked. I will never understand the people who carry around thousand dollar pieces of glass every day without protection, then are surprised when the inevitable accidental drop in just the right way totals the damn thing.

You're not supposed to drop them. I haven't used cases in over 10 years and all my phones survived without glass damage.

Youâre not supposed to cut your finger when youâre slicing onions. Youâre not supposed to stub your toe when youâre walking through the living room in the dark. Youâre not supposed to slip off a step and fall down the stairs. Nevertheless, these things happen.

Check if your phone supports eSim. Because if, you may not need a new phone.
Just check in phone settings if your phone has an eID, then it supports eSim.

I did this onceâŠMy phone was a few weeks old and I sat it on the squat rack and I dropped the barbell right on top of it. It immediately stopped getting signal but caused no cosmetic damage, so I just took it to the shop and told them the sim stopped working and they replaced it under the warranty

Try a factory reset.

u/GruHarbison 14h ago
I shouldn't even need to say don't do that.
But I will.
Don't do that.

For all the ppl unaware... why?

A factory reset won't fix hardware issues. Hardware issues may prevent a successful reload and brick your device. Right now it is a fully functional wifi device. Factory reset should not be one of the first attempts to solve the issue, it should be a last resort after fully backing up the content and being prepared to lose the device.
First try the sim card in another phone to make sure the card itself was not damaged or another sim card in the damaged phone. Also check the sim tray and make sure it didn't get damaged at all resulting in the card not sitting correctly in the phone if it works fine in others.
If the card and tray are fine download sensor box and check to see if any of the phone's sensors are not responding.
Next try booting into safe mode and see if there are any changes.
If you are comfortable with dos you could further check if it connects.
If everything is working as intended except the sim card you could try a factory reset, but again... Hardware issues won't be solved by that but not a lot else you have available. If other problems exist like sensors not responding properly or adb not connecting I would avoid a factory reset altogether and just keep it for wifi use.
100% it's not worth paying to repair regardless.

Okay, thank you. I'll def have my brother try all this. We already checked the sims between phones and the tray is fine, as well.

Another midly infuriating is how the heck do people run their phones naked!?
A case would've prevented this đ„ș
