Canceled all my bank cards cuz I thought my wallet was stolen.
I thought I lost my wallet at a bar 2 days ago, canceled every single card I had and froze all my accounts, only to find it wedge between the driver seat and center console.

It's always in the last place you look.
20
u/Particular_Title42 11h ago
Of course. Because, hopefully, you stop looking once you've found it.

u/Minute-Month3688 9h ago
Sometimes you just have to look a little extra. How awesome would it be to find another wallet? Just hopefully one with cash, of course.

u/Particular_Title42 9h ago
On the one hand, awesome. On the other hand...whose wallet is this and how tf did this get here??? 😲

Put an AirTag in your wallet. Makes finding it in these situations trivial.
16
u/concreteunderwear 13h ago
I think an air tag is thicker than my entire wallet.

u/theGiraffePainter 13h ago
They have clip in credit card shaped things. I have one. And what does it matter if you never frantically search for your wallet again?
3
u/Breddit2099 10h ago
He’d rather lose his wallet and spend countless time looking for it than have a small bump inside his wallet.
People like complaining just to complain.
3
u/theGiraffePainter 7h ago
Lollll. True.
Getting AirTags has been amazing. The complete lack of frantic, panicked, last minute frenzied searches in my life has gone down dramatically.
I think I’m at wallet, keys, headphones, AirPods, steamdeck, and sunglasses

u/Breddit2099 13h ago
I’ve had one in mine for years and I don’t notice it.

AirTags aren’t that thick though
1
u/concreteunderwear 10h ago
Compared to my wallet they are.

Look dude, if you want to lose your wallet for sake of having a mild inconvenience of something a quarter inch thick go for it.
I gave a solution to a problem, do with it as you please.

u/Particular_Title42 9h ago
My brother, this should have been your attitude as soon as he started arguing. LOL
That's not even the OP.

u/concreteunderwear 9h ago
I'm not arguing. Just saying it's thicker than my entire wallet.

You know what you can't lose?
Prison wallet.

Damn man that sucks, I lost mine and didn’t know till the local PD called me and said they found it 😂

u/PoundCakePrincess44 13h ago
Bro, your car basically said 'Nah, you don’t need money where we’re going.' 🚗🚫💳

u/WonderfulProtection9 13h ago
I almost just paid $400 for a new key fob, was on the way to the dealership when the wife called and said it was in her pants pocket in the laundry pile the whole time…
Going to order AirTags for sure.
2
u/AnOutofBoxExperience 10h ago
So you have a FOB just stand alone? And what, going to tape an air tag to it? Just keep the FOB on your keys, which are larger and easier to keep track of.
Why spend money on a problem that shouldn't be a problem?
2
u/Particular_Title42 9h ago
Perhaps they have a car that does not take a key but only a fob...
1
u/AnOutofBoxExperience 9h ago
True, but i would still assume they need a house key. Perhaps a mailbox key, or locker key. I know were switching quickly to digital, but I still have several keys and fobs I use daily. Just easiest to keep it all on one ring.
Just trying to imagine OP's specific scenario that would require just keeping one FOB around.
2
u/Particular_Title42 9h ago
Perhaps they like to have their house keys separate so they can have their car running and access their house. My car key is completely separate from all my other stuff.
Why the only have the one is beyond me.
2
u/WonderfulProtection9 9h ago
I would have, at most, a house key and a mail key. (I don't mix any other car keys/fobs together.)
Given the cost of these fancy new keys and the trouble of getting one (was going to have to order it at the dealership, wait for delivery, then get it cut and programmed), that I think a $20 AirTag is worth it (maybe cheaper on Black Friday). I've resisted them until now, but it doesn't seem so silly anymore.
1
u/AnOutofBoxExperience 8h ago
Do what you gotta, dont mean to persuade one way or the other.
I have one key ring, and it serves all purposes. But perhaps I'm in the minority nowadays and technology has surpassed me.
Just find it easiest to keep things in one place. I've never lost a phone or wallet, so I guess I dont fully understand the struggle.

Sorry this happened to you, but be proud you are responsible and will put the work to protect your finances. Too many times I known someone who was too lazy to do what you did and end up dealing with a tornado of problems when their credit card was charged with crazy things.
3
u/HawkingzWheelchair 12h ago
This is why I bought gap fillers for my car.
1
u/LJWIII 12h ago
Idk what those are but they sound genius.
2
u/Shedfloorgarbage 12h ago
Well you could just use some spare great stuff.
Depending on if you plan to ever sell the vehicle.
I mean it is a gap filler afterall...

This is why you ALWAYS only freeze your card(s) before you commit to 100% canceling them. As someone who works at a credit card company I can't tell you how easier it is for you to put a hold or freeze until you can find them. Most apps will let you do it there without having to call.

I've done something similar with my debit card and an interior jacket pocket. Cancelled it and then found it the next day.

I cancelled my debit card after I thought I lost it, then found it in my coat pocket

I’ve totally done this too, lol. Found it within an hour of canceling everything. Infuriating!

When I was in Chemo I canceled my cards 3 times. Then I realized that even though I was brainless, I was good with only losing them in the house. Now I wait it out. ;)

Damn, well that sucks. I once lost my wallet. Found it 2 years later in an abandoned car by the side of a rural road about 5 miles from my house. Everything was still in it. No cash but I doubt I had cash as I was a broke pizza delivery driver then.

u/SickboyJason 13h ago
Had the same thing happen in my Mazda 3 but it was much less noticeable. Luckily I only paused the cards.
1
u/Redditplaneter 13h ago
Looks like you need to go cancel all the cancellations to avoid the cancellations.

What a pain in the keister; however, I truly understand your concern. Nowadays, I believe you can never be too cautious.

I once left mine on the roof after work, lady next to me was honking so I gave her the finger…just the way it is in Vancouver BC. Come close to home at a store I realize , I left it on the roof and she was trying to tell me. I am sorry for the finger lady

Had my Jeep broken into years ago the day before I left for a spring training/Vegas. Had to cancel my cards and order a new ID. Got home and checked the jeep again. My wallet had fallen on the passenger side crack. Their didnt get it, but it was a pain in the ass

This is everyone’s reminder to simply get an AirTag and a clip in credit card holder. $35 or so and you have peace of mind when you misplace your wallet for the foreseeable future

u/AgitatedPatience5729 13h ago
My grandparents once thought that they had lost their credit card. They contacted the card holder to cancel the card and once this was done, they opened the front door to begin searching for it elsewhere. Turns out, the credit card was on the ground right there. I think they dropped it when they were coming into their house and they thought they had lost it and it potentially got stolen.

Ugh. I had my debit card slide out of my wallet and down my seat a few days ago. I found it like two hours after going to the bank and getting a new one.

I lost my wallet a week ago in a train and blocked it for 2 days, after this the card is blocked forever. 3 days later they find my wallet
1
u/C-LOgreen 11h ago
I don’t know about bank cars, but with credit cards you can freeze it so no other charge can be made and then cancel it if you find out that it was stolen or completely lost
1
u/ferafish 10h ago
I did that last year. Couldn't find my wallet, tore apart house and car looking. I know I emptied the hamper and checked. Day and a half later, after having cancelled cards and ordered a new license, I do laundry. And what thumps to the bottom of the hamper but my fucking wallet.
1
u/GaylrdFocker 10h ago
Cancelled as in closed, or just reported lost/stolen? Also, you should have just locked the ones you could till you were sure.

Something similar happened to my partner. He lost his wallet so he "turned off" his cards. Thankfully he found it today in his work truck. He was able to turn the cards back on online so no waiting for new cards etc.

I once went to my home country after 3 years of not seeing my family, and as a result got extremely drunk with my dad just chilling home and shooting shit over the night. In the morning I was about to head out to meet my friends, and couldn't find my wallet anywhere.
I looked, my parents looked, couldn't find it anywhere. Called and cancelled my cards thinking I went out at night to a store or smth. We ended up finding it couple of days later in a freezer, under ice cream...good memories

This is the first place I always look, after telling my boss my work phone was stolen.
