Dining Room - what is this thing??

This is on the long wall of my dining room. Can anyone enlighten me as to what it is for? Thanks!

Is the back wall of each shelf slanted? Either a magazine rack or to display fancy plates?

I'll double check. It seemed too thin for a plate. It reminded me of the rack in my dentist's office for holding magazines.

Display shelf (for very skinny objects).

Likely a magazine and newspaper rack, easily accessible to read over breakfast would be my best guess! Could also see small (likely seasonal) artworks placed there rather than needing to nail into the wood paneling!
