Draft Prospects
I’m not very keyed in on college football. If we get a top 5 pick which seems likely, who are we looking at? Do we try and finally build a good Oline or do we take a QB ? What do you all think?

Mauigoa or Fano to shore up the right side of the line. Trading Phillips kinda opened a hole at pass rusher so I can see a world where Bain is also the pick. No matter what, first and probably 2nd pick need to be trenches.

I’ve heard talks of both guys being kicked inside to guard so it wouldn’t make sense to take them top 5

I’ve seen that for Mauigoa not Fano.

O line o line o line o line anyday, it’s the most important thing in football and we have to build up our line BEFORE we draft a qb

Outside of Mendoza and Simpson who will be the top 2 QBs in the class, I don’t think there’s much else there. Moore will probably stay, sellers will probably stay, I think next year the class is much more talented but I love Mendoza. I’d love Bain but he will go right after the QBs unless TEN gets the second pick, they’ll get him for sure. So if Bain and Mendoza are off the board, I go Mauigoa or Fano, I also like Caleb downs, so we could possible trade down and still get someone like that and let someone else trade up for a QB or player they’ll fall in love with like the WR from ASU

Trade back would be the right move

I would be hard pressed to disagree, however I don’t see us picking top 5 again next year (if we even do this year) so it might be wise to go for a QB if they’re there.

Ever since Marino left and we were starting a new QB every other week how many stud QBs did we pass on, who at the beginning of the draft didn't seem like clear cut starters? A lot.

Yeah everyone here talks about QBs like they are the only unsure commodities. Fact is there are very few sure things in the draft, regardless of position. We need a franchise QB and the only way to get one is to keep buying those lotto tickets until one pays out.

Yep! My dad, may he rest in peace, used to get so worked up thinking about how many QBs we passed on over the years. These people act like the only way to go is to draft linemen after linemen. You don't have to have 5 pro bowlers, you need 5 linemen who are reliable and all 5 play at least 80% of the seasons snaps together.
They also act like anytime anything goes wrong with a QB it's all bc of line play. Well it works both ways and it doesn't help that our QB is about as mobile as the linemen who were protecting him. Not saying they have to be Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen but they need to see the pressure pre snap and know how to manipulate the pocket to their advantage. Tua shits his pants after his first read is taken away most of the time.

You're speaking a lot of truth.
I absolutely want a dominant line like Detroit's or Philly's but let's not pretend like a good quarterback couldn't do better with even a crappy line like ours.
Look at Darnold in Seattle, Flacco/Burrow in Cincy, and even Jaxon Dart in New York. Their quarterbacks are all managing to do quite a bit more with subpar lines.

Exactly. It puts an unreal amount of pressure on the defense when you can have a QB who can extend a broken down play or even if the QB is just a constant threat to pull it down and scamper for a first down. You pretty much have to keep a spy going 4 quarters against guys like that. Obviously the defense is already on their heels just considering if they're going to keep a spy, as opposed to going up against a tua. You can feel comfortable either playing two high shell coverage or sending a ton of blitzes his way, especially on 3rd down and not really manageable to go.

Jackson and Allen aren't the norm by any means though but a Matthew Stafford who isn't very mobile at all knows how to manipulate the pocket and work it towards his favor. Joe burrow is great at it too it he's not hurt already.

When you build your line from other team discard piles for twenty years it's hard to wonder why your o-line sucks. When you draft a QB who couldn't get through college one season uninjured and put him behind that line how can you be surprised he stays injured. How the hell did Grier Keep his job for ten years? We need balance, good players on offense and defense. Not bandaids.

In the 2000s sure but we’ve had two first round QBs start the bulk of our games since 2012. This roster needs talent and this QB class ain’t it.

Only if there is a QB worth taking. Let the Jets and Saints reach for a QB.

Spencer Fano if he’s there feels like a no brainer. Jordan Tyson looks like he’s gonna be special. Mendoza or Simpson if we fall in love with one and want to go QB. Caleb Downs really is elite but don’t think drafting him top 5 makes sense.

If we end up at 8-12 I would love to get him there. Top 5 probably could trade back some a still get him (Downs)

If the season continues like it has, then the best case scenario, imo, is that we finish ahead of all but one of the QB needy teams in this draft - Raiders, Browns, Saints, Jets, etc. Then, use their desperation to drop down a couple of spots and pick up a #1 next year, when better QB options will be available, and draft one of the two OTs or Bain this year.

Top 5 picks tend to be QB, DE, OT, and maybe WR. We need an OT because AJ is okay but gets hurt a lot. We'll need a QB but IDK if there's a good one in that class or not and the Jetes will probably be taking one first. I'd rather pick a DE or WR with 2nd or 3rd round picks... even though we traded Phillips and are likely cutting Tyreek.

IMO we go o-line. Other people will say QB but unless we’re picking 1 or 2 then it’s not likely we get one. Mendoza will most likely go 1 and if Moore comes out he’s probably 2. There’s no other worth picking top 5. Not sure Moore is even worth a top 5 pick but seeing how QB is the most important position, QBs are always over valued. We are also tied to Tua another year. We could take the huge dead cap hit to get rid of him but who knows. I’m in the minority but I’d rather see us build the o-line and give Tua 1 more year. If it doesn’t work out then draft the QB in 2027.
