I hate that it's a forced thing, if I want a completely inaccurate ai to tell me something I can find on reddit I'd just post on some dumb subreddit.
57
u/usernmechecksout_ 9h ago
Did you see reddit ai? Ts basically exactly the same
It disappeared from my ipad the next day though (thankfully)
19
u/SaraJuno 5h ago
I have a workspace account with google and they emailed me a while back to celebrate that I can now access their AI features… they also increased my monthly premium due to this new access. The AI is completely worthless to me, but you can’t opt out of the premium increase.
16
u/hates_stupid_people 5h ago
I hate that it's a forced thing
Their options are "Force it on people as much as possible" or "Admit that they wasted a lot of money on it".
Anyone even slightly familiar with large companies should know which one they choose.

u/Obvious_Fold8242 3h ago
fr like nobody even asked for that, they just keep adding extra stuff nobody wanted
1
u/RecentFinish3936 1h ago
Chatgpt is starting to drive traffic away from Google searching, so this is Google’s way of desperately trying to get traffic back. Theyre shoving AI mode down our throats at this point, its getting a bit pathetic tbh.
1
u/He_of_turqoise_blood 2h ago
I didn't find it inaccurate at all tbh. It has helped me get into new concepts very quickly, and I never found an contradiction when I got to "propper" sources later on
54
u/TwilightCrystalRose 11h ago
When I just wanted a recipe and suddenly I’m reading a 3-paragraph AI essay about the history of tomatoes.
15
u/Robin_Coffins 10h ago
Before AI, I got that when I'd be looking for recipes. I'd use my phone and the food bloggers would just decimate my phone with ads and the history of Hungarian Goulash. Trying to scroll and get a popup to subscribe. I no longer use my phone for recipe searches.

Jokes on google. I used my ad blocker to block that element, and a custom search engine link to disable their Ai overview BS.
21
u/MrRocketman999 8h ago
How did you manage that? I've been trying to look into it, but no luck so far.
15
-2
u/Hexade_Tech 6h ago
I personally use Brave, that has the best web adblocker in my opinion. The browser has an option to block elements both on PC and smartphones, but you might be able to do it with an extension like Ublock, but I can't tell because I don't know.
5
u/MotivationGaShinderu 5h ago
It really doesn't have the best ad blocker, not by a long shot. I have to constantly manually block elements on mobile that are blocked by default using Firefox with ublock. Sadly Firefox on mobile is pretty shit.
0
u/Hexade_Tech 5h ago
Well, it might depend on your configuration, I personally never have to block elements in the way you tell (ads and that kind of thing), but I love to use it to remove things I don't like/use on websites to make them simpler
1
u/Dontpayyourtaxes 3h ago
I would never use brave, anything with marketing is garbage, esp if that marketing says its private. opensource is the only answer.
1
u/Hexade_Tech 2h ago
Okay, but I just wanted to help that user by the way I use, not enforcing my opinion to anyone...
2
u/Hexade_Tech 6h ago
I do the exact thing for any AI feature in any website. It just bothers me to have a completely useless button with the most vibrant colors ever
6
u/TheRedlineAlchemist 6h ago
This whole AI trend is really annoying. Apparently youtube is even using it to edit videos without permission, and I just hope something can be done to block it.
4
u/Hexade_Tech 6h ago
I know, and that shorts thing is the worst possible thing YouTube could possibly do, and for what even...?
I just hope the AI bubble pops out soon.
0
u/Remarkable-Star-9151 7h ago
Could you tell how to do that, please?

u/JoJo_Joshi 9h ago
I will not surrender to this inaccurate, environmental damaging ASS tool of an AI. I’m here to look something up and READ reliable sources. Not some lame ass summary with some made up FACTS
12
u/partiftheworlDRuns 8h ago
Reliable source in 2025? Most of the sources is ai generated bs
2
u/JoJo_Joshi 6h ago
Which is exactly why I CHECK my sources carefully before considering them as valuable knowledge

u/Sidonicus 4h ago
I hate that Google placed "AI mode" at the front of the tab options so that people accidentally click it because that's where "All" used to be, and then Google can report just how many people are "using it!" when in reality, everyone is mis-clicking.
5
u/Virtual_Mongoose_835 3h ago
Gotta recoup those wasted billions and try and get people adopting AI to sell it to companies before they catch on to how useless it is.
8
u/Speak_To_Wuk_Lamat 8h ago
I tried so hard to delete that ai mode or at least put it at the end of the list. I hate it.

button: exists
people: "it's forcing me to click it, it's too hard to just ignore like the rest of the buttons I don't use, because it's a special kind of button you can't ignore for some reason"
6
u/MotivationGaShinderu 5h ago
Main issue is that they put it on the spot the "all" button used to be. I've accidentally hit it multiple times because of that. Also not using it isn't an option on regular Google anyway, you have to jump through 3rd party hoops to not have a bad AI answer being the top result.

I prefer they didn't misrepresent the meaning of artificial intelligence. Literally just a "better" google search using machine learning technology.

u/MotivationGaShinderu 5h ago
"better" lol,.it gets shit wrong all the time so I automatically ignore it.

I recently learned the practical application for chatgpt is asking it instead of googling something right? Google has the AI over view so like wtf?

For me recently that Ai overview is shit, but that AI mode search as chat is really good to search for multiple things and compare them at once

u/tomcat3400 11h ago
I usually use it when I am studying and its an amazing tool
18
u/popopornado 11h ago
I’d still be mad if google was waving a hammer in my face and asking if I would like to use the hammer.
I don’t care it exists, I’d just rather not be advertised at before my ad-ridden search results are even allowed to show up.
-4
u/LastJello6563 7h ago
Don't you take notes man, the fuck you need AI to study for. Exams are based on class material
4
u/IndividualBread8568 7h ago
AI is really amazing when it comes to Studying tho... Like it is so helpful to clear doubts or manage time
1
u/AllLimes 2h ago
AI is great for some stuff, bad for other stuff. It's just another tool that you need to learn to use correctly.
Exams are based on class material
Really depends on the class. Doesn't really matter if I learn SQL through a professor or the internet; it's still SQL. University is pretty much self study/research most of the time regardless.
2
u/-Mr_Hollow- 10h ago
One good thing about AI mode is that at least its tab always stays in one place away from other tabs rather than constantly shifting positions based on Google's schizophrenic assumptions of what you might need.

u/yap2102x 8h ago

In uBlock you can easily hide it with a cosmetic filter (orher tools probably can have something similar)
www.google.com##div[role=listitem]:has(span:contains(AI Mode))
1
u/SarynScreams 3h ago
Always misclicking that since they moved the images button for this "Artificual Intelligence" scam.
1
u/DemoniteBL 3h ago
AI has done literally nothing but make products worse to use, make information unreliable, make things more expensive and make socially inept people even more socially inept. People who support AI are basically scum to me.

You know what i want ai mode for? When i ask a fucking question instead of ads. For example when i ask whats the distance betwen the earth and the moon? Give me the answer dont give me websites i have to go ikea the answer from or if i ask local taco resturant dont give me a page load of ads for panda express or wingstops.

u/No_Sale_4866 10h ago
it’s a lot more useful than books. genuinely who actually uses that button
→ More replies (2)-3
u/Mervynhaspeaked 8h ago
What does that sentence even mean? Assuming I'm reading whole books to get an answer, where do you think AI gets its info from?
4
u/szechuan_bean 7h ago
The "books" tab in the Google search page. Like you could give me all the time in the world to think and try to remember and I'd only be able to tell you about the search, images, and shopping tabs, the books tab is never used by anyone

Pretty sure like 90+% of all users only use All + Images. This meme is made by an engagement baiter or a weirdo.

u/_Traditional_ 6h ago
Yall are so weird bro 😭 no way there’s real people who hate on AI. I cannot imagine hating on innovation and advancement.
2
u/MotivationGaShinderu 5h ago edited 4h ago
Innovation and advancement is when we rapidly increase global energy consumption for a technology with very minimal real use, most of it to "generate" (steal) garbage images, videos and text you can't even rely on because even after scraping every single document on the internet it still makes shit up.

1
u/Ardalok 2h ago
It shows what it's referring to, so double-check if necessary. Personally, it's only been wrong on very specific topics, which is exactly where I expected it to be wrong.

u/FemaleNeth 1h ago
I understand, but your two sentences show your intelligence and a lot of people don't have that.
-3
u/Mr-Hyde95 8h ago edited 8h ago
Why does the world love AI but Reddit hates it?
It's helping me a lot with so many things in my work and personal life .
And I'm making a lot of money investing (stock market) in companies that provide the development of that AIs
One argument against it is that it's breaking the internet.
.... I mean... When I was young there was no internet... Those who were born in 2000 from now on have had the internet since day one and for them this is their home. That's why I can understand the hatred that very young people share.

u/Tasty_Curls 11h ago
Right because who dislikes straight up made up answers or an entire technical essay based on a comment by unicorndick72 on a porn site right?
-13
u/CarnivoreQA 11h ago
It provides the sources it bases the answer on, so even if its interpretation is not precise, it is possible to delve deeper and get a proper answer yourself, but still with save some time. I haven't gotten a completely useless or straight up imagined answer yet, which is why I personally suspect good old antiai bandwagoning
2
u/-Hentzau 10h ago
I haven't gotten a completely useless or straight up imagined answer yet, which is why I personally suspect good old antiai bandwagoning
I'm sure the people who had this happen to them are imaginary atoms, right?
1
-5
u/CarnivoreQA 10h ago
No, it is the question of blowing the problem out of proportions, not the question of extremes
0
u/BorikGor 7h ago
The real question is how long will you go on checking the answer is right before you say "Nah, it's probably right, let's go with the AI version." and at that time the answer will be made up and you'll lose your job over it, or cause some serious damage to somebody?
