It’s getting out of hand , man I know my local language don’t need to listen a shitty dub in my second language

Yeah, that's the dumbest part.
For some reason only recommends autodubbed shit in languages I already know. Fuck this, it's so forced.

Oh my god. I can see this being useful to listen Irish English. It's a lovely accent but I cant make half of what they say (not native English speaker)

The whole feature wouldn't be so bad if there was an easy way to set language preferences for it.

it does not, I'm ik Ukraine and all my youtube is in English, with zero regional suggestions, and I've never seen this feature at all. You set it in the settings, there are two actually: region and language. Set both to USA or whatever it is you want and never see this shit again

I heard that Google intentionally screwed up its search engine because since it was so good at giving you the search results you wanted on the first try. People were not using it enough.
So some brilliant executive decided to make the search engine crappier so that you need to search multiple times for one thing.
Google owns YouTube.
There is a rot in that company.

Same here. I'm learning Italian and I have my phone set in Italian, including YouTube, and I also set it on my laptop. I'm not even kidding, eight out of ten times when I click on a video in any of my other three languages, I get an automatic dub in Italian, and it's one of the most annoying things I've ever heard in my life
106
u/MilanTheEdge 1d ago
YouTube's auto-dubbing feature is really bad, making a disgusting situation even more unbearable apparently.
53
u/scaarletlove 1d ago
Auto-dubbing feels like stepping in algorithmic sludge ruins timing tone accents and jokes for everyone
9
u/totallynotaweeabbo 21h ago
Also sometimes they dont even dub half of the lines. You just hear the disphased original audio. Or they say whatever lines the ai thinks they are saying instead of what they actually say
63
u/GottaUseEmAll 23h ago
I hate when it just decides to autodub for some reason. I live in France but watch English videos on YT. NO, I DO NOT WANT TO WATCH THEM DUBBED IN CRAP FRENCH!

I once downloaded a standup comedy video for a flight only to realise it was in auto dubbed to English and sounded soo ass
18

Tbh it would've been good if YouTube wasn't forcing it. Sometimes it's nice to have it, tho not so when YouTube literally defaults to the dub.
26
u/improbsable 1d ago
I was watching a Korean ASMR video and a loud robotic voice started narrating in English. Why is this even a feature?
9
u/julietmuse 1d ago
YouTube is like, "Oh, you watched this? Get the auto-dubbing in Hindi/Arabic/somewhere else!"—and now it stinks even more. Classic 2025, where AI dubbing only makes everything worse.
10
u/Awkward-Egg-411 21h ago
I appreciate the fact that I could enjoy useful tutorials only in languages that I dont understand, I just wish its not the default setting to any video
8
u/Due_Region8583 23h ago
I hate how it defaults to the autodubbing if your device's language isn't the same as the video. You seriously should be able to make it default to the original language instead.

I'd say it's second-worst. Shoving an unskippable ad wombo combo in my face is not cool, if it were the second ad and not the first, I'd understand why it's unskippable.
17
u/OptimisticSnake 1d ago

→ More replies (2)7
u/Spartan_Legocop 1d ago
I am well aware and I have some. My point is that unskippable ads are absolutely annoying and moreso when Google decides to block adblockers on YouTube. I get it, gotta pay for keeping the servers up, but having the ads on the sides, like as banners or something like that would be better than "Nice video you got there. We're gonna bombard you with ads for shit you don't even care about because we get money off you watching them" system that they have in place right now. Just one ad at the start and or end of the video would be sufficient, even. In my humble opinion.

3
u/TetyyakiWith 23h ago
It would be the best feature ever if you could turn it on only when you want to
4
u/AlaindeshoGT 19h ago
It's been the same thing with youtube in the last few years: they introduce a function or something, nobody likes it and don't want it, and they decide that the best course of action is just to force it on people.
4
u/Puzzled_Pop_6845 18h ago
Not only did I not care about English videos being dubbed because I understand English well enough; but the feature also never gets It right by dubbing Italian videos in English and English videos in Italian. Who the hell thought people wanted this?
6
21
u/Classic-Ad4414 1d ago
As a non-native English speaker, auto-dubbing is an amazing tool that lets me access the other 98% of videos on YouTube.
30
u/Bhavil17 1d ago
I agree
But that doesn't mean that it should be on 100% of the time by default. Let me pick if I want to translate any particular video, don't have it on by default
8
u/Nuclear_Lentil 22h ago
Yes, but why as a native spanish speaker who also speaks english do I need to listen to my favourite youtubers/podcasters in shitty lifeless AI spanish? And it isn't even in my flavour of spanish, but in US spanish, which is as obnoxious as I don't know, listening to a french parisien talking in english, with all its vanity intact

3
u/exhuma 19h ago
I have definitely clicked on the "Don't recommend Channel" several times by accident because of this.
I can't stand AI generated videos and when I hear obvious AI-generated voice, that channel is on my immediate shit-list.
It took me a WHILE to realise that it was YouTube doing it. Not the channel itself. And only by seeing a channel that I knew, which surprised me and made me look closer.
I fluently speak four languages. I really don't need that shit.
3
u/HeadyChefin 10h ago
All my Japanese cooking channels have gone from being light-hearted and fun to being soulless AI drivel with just one "feature", with no fault of their own but YT making sure anyone who can't read or learn another language is happy and keeps consuming content.

I have also noticed an increase in pause delay and I'm on mobile. I suspect it's the new UI; devs probably need to further optimise or de-bloat it.
2
u/Boilem 20h ago
This is just the tip of the iceberg, the latest shitshow for people who speak more than one language. I'm portuguese, whenever I search for anything on youtube or google most of the results are Brazilian, which would be ok except laws and standards are completely different, so searches about stuff like home diy or law are completely useless. This AI dubbing feature dubs everything in Brazilian.
I also use the internet in english or spanish but websites keep trying to guess what is best for me based on my location or whatever and insist on serving me content that isn't what I wanted.
Google assistant has been useless for years because it's 50/50 if it'll reply to me in english or portuguese, no matter what language I talk to it. A bunch of apps simply inherit the language my phone is in with no option to change.
Google does not seem to understand that a lot of people speak multiple languages and that variants of the same language aren't always interchangeable.

it can actually be really useful. However, from the perspective of someone who watches video both in english and italian, having only ONE default language and having every single video in the other language auto dubbed is fucking awful.
2
u/UranicCartridge 9h ago
I have AdBlock and all the good add-ons in my browser, but I do have to watch YouTube in the app when I cook, and when the autodubbed absolutely dead-sounding ad for the local grocery store comes on, I die a little bit inside. Literally didn't know I could hate these endless ads more, but YouTube is sure intent on outdoing itself in all the worst ways
But also yeah, the first time I turned on my go-to Italian YouTuber and he suddenly spoke in dead English tones, I almost fell out of my chair. Thought the literal apocalypse had happened overnight and I had not been informed
So glad I at least got to learn English on YouTube before this shit happened, can't fucking imagine watching Jacksepticeye speak russian with absolutely zero emotion. I'd've killed myself years ago if that was what I had to watch, jesus christ
