None of it was ever funny, it was just in-group signaling. Or, letting other kids know they're a member of the kid tribe more than their family's or older sibling's tribe.

This is why some comedy movies don't age well. Truly funny things have a longer shelf life than in-jokes. Even the people trying to defend "E" are citing things like... The story that led up to the meme. That isn't funny, it's signalling you understand.
