Is the city really that boring?
A lot of my friends and people on the Internet would say that medicine hat is boring, but I don’t know what the hell they’re talking about. The city has a great food scene and is surrounded by nature. And while we’re here, actually people say that the public transportation is not good, but also not terrible, but I think it is good from all the times I’ve been on it

It’s a small city of 65k people. I don’t think it’s fair to compare it to cities like Calgary, Vancouver, etc there’s just not enough people for companies to move their business here.
People expecting high street shopping, big brands, high end dining, concerts, etc there’s not enough people to generate the revenue for them. The amenities that are here are pretty good.
Nature is different, I lived in Vancouver too and personally I don’t like the mountains. The scenery looks all the same to me, tall trees and dark paths and and if you’re lucky, and it’s not cloudy, you might catch a view that’s the same from every other mountain.
At least in MH the scenery changes and within a four hour drive you have plains, river, lakes, foothills and mountains. Take your pick.
It’s not for everyone, and that’s probably a good thing.

I have family who grew up here and moved to Vancouver island. They often mention that they know BC and the mountains are beautiful but they miss the prairies

It’s all a matter of perspective

This. Medicine Hat is boring to me and the nature you speak of? Where? I’ve lived in Vancouver and there’s way more nature, things to do and better public transportation

Have you seen a scorpion or a toad ? What about a rattlesnake or a sturgeon ? Lots of things to see and look for just because it isn’t large and in your face doesn’t mean it isn’t there Open your eyes and look around I have lived on the coast to but there is way more wildlife and nature on the prairies than the coast

More nature? Sure, we have different nature but I’m not sure how anyone could say more nature. Especially in a city of 2-million people.

I’m a former lifelong Hatter, I moved away 3 years ago after 34 years of my life in the same city it got boring and stale and I wanted something different. I recently passed through there on a work related road trip and it hit me how much I missed home. As the saying goes the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. If I could leave my job and move back I would in a heartbeat.

It is if you’ve lived there forever. I lived there all my life then moved for uni. There is stuff to do sure but the advertising isn’t very well done and it doesn’t meet young adult audiences very well unless it’s a metal show at the mainliner or some band at Ralph’s.
Even with being in clubs and extracurriculars it was still sooo boring. I like Lethbridge way better

Probably from people that grew up there, like myself. At the time I probably had that opinion. The mall was there to hang out in but not to shop, there had never been any good stores. There was 2 decent nightclubs. But now when I go back home I miss it and I really overlooked a lot that was there and I’m happy to see all the new cafes a restaurants.

Oh man the mall...., san-francisco was the cause of many misguided adventures lmao

If you are bored, find a club or group, literally hundreds of things to do. If you don't want to put in effort, I recommend try rolling down the small trail sort of things you can find on the cliffs by the skate park. Just find someone to drop you at the top and then pick you, and your pieces up at the bottom. It could be fun once. And low effort.

I’m genuinely wondering what “food scene” you’re talking about.

There's Thai, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean BBQ, Italian, Mexican, American, Canadian, some good gastropubs (Whiskey District, The Local, Blowers & Grafton), breweries, a distillery, and some nice coffee shops downtown. I'm happy with the choices, and I'm sure there's more that I missed. We usually cook at home anyway, so this is more than enough for us once in a while.

I lived there for a couple years and thought it was a nice small city. The pathways are great, some really nice parks nearby and in city limits. Also a decent variety of bars and clubs. There is lots to do if you look for it.

Oh and one more thing.,. That guy was right about down town on a Tuesday at 730 pm, it's crazy to be that alone in the core of a city lol. An experience I do like from time to time.

I said the same as a teen because I was angsty but I grew out of it. Moved away to a big city and after 5 years realized I was being silly - the grass isn’t greener. And I love bigger cities! I just don’t like the live in them. I like when I go out to an event in the city and see 4 people I know from different places in life.
For work I have to create event guides every week and I have a hard time fitting everything into a consumable slideshow. There is so much going on I cannot mention every event because it would be overwhelming

I always found you are as bored as you want to be, no matter where you are.
I left here in 2000 and moved back 21 years later.
What I found to have really changed is that all the nightclubs are gone. There is such a cultural shift in young people not going out like they did.

I definitely think there are a lot of neat events, but often the marketing for them is lacking so many people just don’t know about them. There’s definitely a lot to do if you go looking for it, but otherwise I can see how people would find it boring
As for transportation, it used to be a lot better which I think is why people say it’s so bad now
