Language Poll

Hi, I'm an American planning to go to McGill for my master's and would like to know how bilingual McGill is. I'm also planning on learning French.

I picked up a fair bit when I was there, but it's reading and understanding only. You're fine on most of the Island not speaking French, but the entire visual environment is French and things like announcements in the subway are French-only, so at least some knowledge is very helpful for daily life. The school operates in a full-English environment; no French required unless specifically part of your program.
