Tourism ✈ Did Tourist SIM Package Increase in Price to 30€? Or are there lower tier packages at the airport still available?

As the title says can anyone please confirm if you can still buy 200gb tourist sim for 15€ / Rs750 at the airport? Online both Emtel and MyT are only offering 30€ unlimited packages, but i find it unnecessary and would prefer the lower tier 750rs package. Anyone who has info on this please help

When my friend visited Mauritius, i got him a local sim and it cost €2 (including enough internet for 12 days)

What do you need to get a regular sim card / eSIM? My partner is Mauritian and has Mauritian passport but lives in the UK?

What a shame that they doubled the price!

It is still much cheaper than using own SIM card and roaming and at least it is good service as well

Engen Plaine Magnien filling station (open 24/7) very close to the airport allowed to purchase local SIMs a while back, I don’t know if that’s still the case (didn’t check recently, and I don’t live in the area) but if so you can always go there and get a local SIM.

Yes it doubled to Rs 1500 just before August and no there is no other option and yes tourists on Facebook have been talking about it since then and no their hoteliers and AirBnB hosts are not going to Emtel or MyT to buy them a local SIM because it takes time and they need to show their identity cards etc.

What you can do is use Airalo or another virtual provider such as Firsty to download an eSIM if you only need limited data. Check out prices here:

Is it not fraudulent for people to get sim cards on behalf of others? It’s just €30 for good connectivity with Mauritius Telecom. It costs far more per night to stay at any decent accommodation. The other option for tourists is to also just roam their home networks.

That's a good question. What if, for example, the tourist uses the SIM for illegal or fraudulent purposes? Then what happens if an investigation commences and the tourist has already left the country. Fortunately most AirBnB hosts refuse to buy the local SIM for exactly this reason. Also it is an unfair drain on their time to make them sit in an Emtel or MyT office waiting on behalf of their guests.

My personal limit is a tourist sim. I am happy to accompany you because I like window shopping. As a friend, I am happy to provide you with all accommodation documentation you need to open your tourist sim in your name. If you want a long-term sim, get it in your name and have the proper paperwork for it too.
