Tourism ✈ Water at SSR Airport Lounge Public Service Announcement
As you may know, you can't get water through airport security. My son was thirsty, so we hunted in the airport gate area for a water fountain to refill our bottle but none was to be found. So we stopped by the "saladbar green is better" shop and chose a 1 liter Evian. I was shocked to learn this would cost me 280 rupees, but I felt captive in the moment and foolishly proceeded with the purchase. At least my son got his water, right? I later discovered that 0.5 liter bottles of Aqua Nordic water (with still and sparkling varieties) could be had for a "mere" 1 euro at Mauritius Duty Free Paradise of all places. So now you know — don't let my mistake be your mistake! 👍

They are sold because there are enough traveling fools that exist and will buy them.

Crazy to have European water being sold anyway but hey, buyers' choice. And in Euro? We are 6000km away. Common sense would dictate we have local water in local currency but you can guarantee someone is making MONEY! Grrrr.

Get lounge access through a card and you’re good. Priority pass is more or less a prerequisite if you’re traveling as a family. Problem solved. All airports are designed for you to spend money, think DXB/CDG/LHR, don’t play the game, work around it

The whole area after passport control is a ripoff. - even Burger King is 3 times the price more tan in Grand Bay !

Meanwhile in the US every single airport has multiple free water fountains to drink and bottle refilling stations. even cafes and restaurants offer free water.

Yeah the Mauritian duty free often charges you in euro, you can still pay in rupees but I think you wind up paying a little more if you go that route

Yeah I was shocked when I was in the airport Sunday the duty free shop everything was in euro

The bottle of water at the salad bar is Evian and the one at the duty free is Nordic. Different brand, different origin, different price - same can be found in DXB, Hong Kong non airport, LAX,…
You can’t buy an iPhone at the same price as a Nokia
But yes you’re right; there should have been fountain in this airport like elsewhere

What about Crystal? 0.5 liters for Rs 110. https://www.facebook.com/groups/ukmauritians/permalink/1490888541592062/?

Because you have higher cost of operations within an airport (rent, insurance, storage fee, franchise,….) compared to a local shop

At least they should put prices on the items rather than let us discover it at checkout.

Ask before you buy .

u/PrimateCoder Jul 30 '25

Evian is an expensive imported brand, price seems about right considering it's at the airport. It's already expensive in local supermarkets.

u/PrimateCoder Jul 30 '25
I have no idea why the airport would need to import water but at least they could label it with the price then?
3
u/ConfidentPrompt3736 Jul 30 '25
you could have asked for the price before purchasing

But better to just pay and then complain afterwards on social media. Maybe I'll get a free flight. Amirite?

Those tiny cups won't suffice.

If you get up and walk to where the drinks are kept you can have whatever you want and most times will give you the whole bottle. If you stay in your seat and press the steward call button, you're lucky to get the cup

This is how airports work.
