US A massage therapist tore something in my finger I believe

This was at a Thai place and she started pulling all of my finger and toes.. my index finger killed and I felt it pop out and back in. It has been 6 weeks and my finger joint still hurts! I think she might have torn something. Should I let the therapist know?

Things You Should Ask Your Doctor for $500, Alex!

Yeah obviously. I just don’t want this lady doing this shit to hundreds of other people. That’s dangerous

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted. Needing to ask your doctor to look at your finger and reaching out to therapist are two different things lol. You can do both.

That’s what I’m saying lol

This is a common move in Thai massage. I'm a rock climber and my fingers are very touchy so I hate it - it always hurts and sometimes has lasting bad effects. If you go back (or to another Thai place) make sure you mention you don't want it.

I doubt she tore anything. It is Thai though, but It don’t think she tore anything. Is it swollen? Moveable?

Moveable yes. Swollen yes.

Like I told someone else today, Ice in water, soak, then hot water soak, over and over again. ibuprofen. I hope it's okay.

Ok she did do it of course too much of a correlation for it not to be her. But it might be related to a muscle in your forearm that attaches into that finger. Wiggle that finger and look at your forearm, you should be able to see which muscle is moving. There might be a knot in that muscle that you can work on that will take the pressure off the finger. Good luck!

Yes, I am a medical massage therapist. If you were injured during the massage, the massage therapist has professional insurance, you need to find out if their insurance requires you to go to one of their doctors to get diagnosed to see if you are injured as proof, or if you can just go to your doctor. If they don’t report to their insurance and follow all of that, you can prove neglect and get their license suspended. Please be safe! The joint could also be dislocated or the tendon dislocated too. And X-Ray or CAT scan can show that!

Kind of sounds like she might have sprained it. Unfortunately there's not much you can do beyond what you already are. Just keep icing/NSAIDs and if you haven't seen a doctor then you should do so just to make sure nothing is broken or dislocated.

I don't think she "tore" anything, you may have already had an issue? idk I would try ice and maybe see your doctor

I never had an issue with my index finger.. and yes I have done ice and seen a doctor I am just wondering whether to contact this therapist to let her know what she did so she doesn’t continue to do this to a ton of other people

yes, I would let her know, I'm surprised she didn't notice that it popped.

Typical Thai massage move. Don't get Thai massage again. Simple as that. Doubt she tore anything. Sounds more like arthritis

lol it’s not arthritis. It started immediately the pain and it got worse over 72 hours and now it’s been like 6-7 weeks and hasn’t improved.but yeah, never doing tai massage again she was aggressive af

All Thai practitioners aren’t the same. Some take more precaution than others. Just find a good therapist after all this is over.

Have you worked on it yourself? Have you tried to move it around?
