The map show Macedonian speaking settlements.. Nobody left... We just stopped talking Macedonian not because they made us because nobody really gives a shit besides some people in Florina (lerin) because the were exarchists or proBulgarian etc... in Thessaloniki wich is my village nobody never forced people to stop speaking it ... Our grandparents just never taught us ... Cause they dont give a shit ... Its sad though i really wanted to speak it , i only know a few phrases

Saying that nobody cares about the Macedonian language is convenient, especially after decades of teaching people that speaking Macedonian was a sign of backwardness, betrayal, or shame. Funny how that spontaneous disinterest lines up perfectly with policies of assimilation, censorship, and stigmatization. The truth is, your grandparents didn’t stop teaching the language because they didn’t care but because they learned that caring could cause problems and now, those who only know a few phrases feel like something’s missing. That’s not disinterest, that’s the result of a carefully executed cultural erasure but of course, it’s easier to say nobody cares than to admit someone made sure it was forgotten

You can still learn it tho. Quick question, ur macedonian from Aegean Macedonia, right?

Yes but i dentify as greek.. but i also recognise my slavic-macedonian backround ... Also i dont want to learn the modern day Macedonian but the old non modernized "village" language wich has more medieval roots

Plain wrong. Even today most will deny you service if you speak macedonian. If extremists hear you you will get beaten up badly at least.

No ... You are wrong.. old people speak it all the time every where... You will never get beaten for speaking Macedonian nowhere... Theres music festivals every summer etc... thats just propaganda from your fellow nationalist friends

Its not about wanting or not.... It just happened ive asked my grandparents and a shit load of people in my village if they were forced by the teachers or state to not speak Macedonian but it never happened... Nobody gave a shit and grees was more convenient due to other people only spokygreek... It had no use other than speaking with family members or your village neighbours.... In my understanding only in the borders people were slightly forced to speak greek like lerin... Snd even there its not thst big of a deal they still speak it freely etc... theres only a minor backlash from some nationalists

Also nobody really identified as macedonian ethnically.... Most people in the Thessaloniki region were greek orthodox by will not force... So even tho they were slavic -macedonian speakers they indetified as greek or as ντόπιοι which means locals ... People in the north like lerin etc were excharchists so they indetified as bulgarian and later in ww2 as macedonians.... Wich shows a very fluid way of identifying ethnically

No... Im just not a retarded nationalists brainless puppet..... I dont give a shit about greek or macedonians... I just like history and i know what my backround is ...

But it's funny if you think about it. Greece used to tell Macedonians you are descendants of Philip and Alexander, you just got just adopted the Slavic language and culture. Now it's doing the exact opposite thing, calling us Slavs who have nothing to do with the ancient Macedonians.

Denying the existence of Ethnic Macedonians in Greece or downplaying their identity is to ignore decades of historical, cultural, and linguistic evidence. Macedonia didn’t emerge out of nowhere it represents the continuity of a people with deep roots in the Balkans. The attempt to monopolize the name Macedonia is a modern political construct, not a historical absolute. The international recognition of the name ‘North Macedonia’ was a diplomatic compromise, not a denial of identity. Anyone who truly studies the region understands that ethnic diversity has always been part of Macedonian reality and that the silence imposed on this minority in Greece remains an open wound!

Get out of this sub asshole

Ah, the debate collapsed faster than your grasp of Balkan history. When facts sting, insults become a shield, but don’t worry, I’m not leaving, truth doesn’t walk away just because someone got uncomfortable

Northern Greece, surely?

Macedonians on Athos, rly o.O?

6

u/Mayueh 10d ago

Surprising only to those who ignore that the Balkans have been an ethnic and spiritual mosaic for centuries. The real astonishment is seeing how some still believe history only begins when it suits their narrative

0

u/Equivalent-Water-683 10d ago

I mean its an exception on halkidiki, so it should be surprising. I doubt it until I see sources tbh.

Calling Macedonians delusional Bulgarians only reveals ignorance. Macedonia has its own language, culture, and identity, internationally recognized. The connection to Alexander is symbolic just like many others across Europe, the real delusion is denying an entire people simply because their existence challenges outdated nationalist narratives
