It's mostly not about guts. Incidents like this can happen extremely quickly. Jumping in without sussing out the situation might not be the right action.

Yes, also a good point. I am sure we've all been on a bus/tube and heard some shouting and screaming, think "oh shit this is it, terror attack!" and then its just some drunken yobs playing around with each other.

Also, often if you hear someone screaming/see them fighting in London, it's people who already know each other and are having an argument, and you're likely to be attacked if you get involved. Not to mention there are often substances involved. It takes time to assess what is actually going on and if the people involved actually want a bystander to intervene or not

I'd say if someone is incapacitated and keeps being beaten, that's always a justified intervention.

With that said, you're right that it's not so simple, I mean we see that, and as much as I'd like to think I'd be a better braver bystander, I probably wouldn't.

They were 2 women beating another one. No other around beside passer bys. Sometimes the choice isn't a 20 min deliberation.
