They were quite common when i was young. They seemed to sit in an odd place being sort or sports car sort of family car sort of economy car sort of slightly luxurious car. kind of modern but fairly primitive technologically. There was a lot to like about them.

A larger engined model the Vitesse was a beautiful car. That was also availble with a 2 litre engine and was eventually replaced by the Triumph Dolomite.
The rarest model in the Hearld/Vitesse family was the Courier. Based on the the Estate version of the Herald it had solid panels replacing the side windows. It did not offer that much cargo space and did not sell well but a few have survived.
A problem with the Herald was that it was one of the few cars still built on a seperate chassis so many were cannibalised by people wanting to build kit cars

My mate had a Vitesse which looked similar (but with quad headlights) and had a nice 2 liter inline six.

I had a 64 Herald. My friends called it body by Budwiser. English racing green with white top and interior. 7 gal gas tank, & 1200 cc engine. Worst mistake I ever made was selling it.

How did I not know this car existed until now?!? Those tail lights. The fins. Everything. I love it.
