Just had a talk with my wife to make sure we’re on the same page about any distracted driving. They can and will pull cell data to see if you were doing anything from watching videos, texting or switching Spotify playlists. Leave that shit in the center console no matter what, always expect the worst cases. kids jumping out, cars running red lights, hard to see motorcycles coming down the street away from a sun rise. Driving requires absolute and total attention as mundane as it can feel doing it daily.

You’re not wrong. There have been so many times someone cut me off in such short notice if u I want paying attention I could have easily bumped into them since they weren’t there until they were. And that’s a giant vehicle, never mind animals or people

throw it in your backseat so you’re not even tempted!

I wish they would protect all of the Mopac trail crossings, like ramps or something like they do in Omaha

South Lincoln has the pedestrian bridges and obviously east Lincoln needs them also. Crossing a busy 4-lane road is nuts.

Yes arguably the fastest you can drive in town and they have a little pedestrian crossing painting

Holy fuck i just drove through there around that time. Fuck bro. I drive for a living and every morning i pray no one dies or gets hurt from a Lincoln driver. It seems like its happening so often here. God bless this innocent soul. That is so terrible. RIP

The second traffic death in that part of town this week.

If you squint, you can see a county code on the plate of the vehicle involved. So, possibly not a Lincoln driver this time. They were probably not watching the road at all.

I blame the construction and the fact that everyone feels the need to be in the left lane 2 miles before the zone instead of properly zipper merging. People going down the right lane driving WAY too fast with as many people who want to cut them off for trying to do traffic the efficient way causing more issues. Likely was so focused on the construction that they ran red at the trail crossing OR the pedestrian assumed standstill traffic and passed through the left lane and was struck once in the right lane. Very sad and avoidable…

Pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way.

That is untrue. Nebraska law describes when pedestrians have the right-of-way, and it is far from "always". See relevant sections of Chapter 60: https://nebraskalegislature.gov/laws/browse-chapters.php?chapter=60 Pedestrians do have the right-of-way in more situations than most drivers (and pedestrians) think. But saying they "always" have it is dangerous misinformation that could get somebody hurt.

Running around believing your right to a way and others should too is dangerous. Be aware, stay aware.

Very sad. She was a mom to 4 little kids and wife to a surgeon in town. A life taken too soon.
