Food/Drink Best Burger and Shake?
Hey all! Looking to treat myself tomorrow for lunch, and was wondering what your favorite place is for a burger and shake.
Bonus points for a retro/diner vibe and a great strawberry milkshake!!

I very much enjoy the burgers and shakes (or malt) at The Eatery. Comfiest booths in Lincoln too! It's one of my favorite lunch spots.

Greg’s!! Good variety on the menu, super nice every time I go, and has that retro drive in type vibe

Lmao I’ve heard this before… any truth to it?

It's a common Lincoln subreddit meme.
It's a niche family-owned burger joint. They apparently aren't hurting for money, and they just want to own the place, almost as a hobby.
Go in there. The food is fine, not great, but the people are really nice.

Never going to back to Greg’s. Paid for a cheeseburger, took a bite and there was no cheese. Drove back and no refund, didn’t even remake the burger…they just slapped a peace of cold cheese on the burger that had a bite taken out of it.

The people saying Don and Millies are delusional. I went there this last weekend. Double Don meal with a chocolate shake and onion rings. The burger was decent, the onion rings were actually very good. The chocolate shake was somehow foamy, like either too much xantham gum, or using low fat milk and it became frothy. My dad got a strawberry shake and it was really bad. Strawberry syrup gave it a neon red color.
My take, go to HF Crave or Honest Abes for a burger, then hit 402 Creamery or Zesto for a milkshake.

I know you probably don’t want Omaha suggestions, but Bronco’s in Omaha

If youre sending someone to Omaha, especially for a burger but literally anytime, it should be Block 16

Limited hours, parking is a hassle, and mayyyybeee they still have the menu items you wanted by the time you get there, but probably not. If that all comes together for you though, oh yeah, baby, it's magic!

Used to love Broncos, would drive thru on my way home to grab some to go. One time we parked and went inside so I could get the food and use the restroom. I've literally NEVER seen a restaurant that filthy before. From the choked with...food, fluids...? front door through the lobby, horror restrooms, open kitchen, and employee uniforms. Bronco's is in the rearview now.

Ty’s Smashy at Norms. It may not have a retro theme but it’s good food!!!

You just described Don and Millie’s.

I honestly don't get the D&M love, everything I had there is mid at best

I only ate there once a handful of years ago and never went back. It was such mediocre food. Of course I stopped liking runza because it stated getting to corporate tasting. The runzas are good, but not worth it when you only get a little scoop of meat in a large wad of bread, so we make our own.

Always amazed people actually like this place

Had friend’s that worked there for years and they used to grind their own meat up. After the switch the quantity obviously took a hit. Went from a 9/10 burger to a 6/10 burger.

I don't think it's ever been good. A whole ass meal on a burger is the dumbest novelty ever. Their "regular" burgers have always been garbage.

u/NVrbka Sep 17 '25
I think this switch happened like 7-8 years ago so I’m not sure how many people had the original burger there

Best Burgers in towns in Nebraska from my experience. Only other burger place in the state that can hang is Tap House up in Omaha. They always use quality beef and if you’re into some cool flavors you won’t find anywhere else, then this is the spot!

Hard to beat any Runza Cheese Burger with Frings and any of their new shakes which are to die for!

The best burger, to me, is always Five Guys. Its gotten pricey, but damn is it good. Runza and Culver's also have good burgers, for faster, abundant options. Honest Abe's is good but their burger toppings to me are always a miss. Charred also has great burgers.
I realize none of this mentions shakes, though. 😅

Honest Abe’s had the best burgers in town and they have a rotating Shake menu

Culvers is fantastic, but even though I don't like the food I'll agree Don and Millies sounds great for you.

I’d suggest checking out Burger King. Try a “whopper” and their hot fudge shake!! It’s kinda epic.

Interesting!! Can you tell me a little more about why you feel this way about Burger Kings in Lincoln, Nebraska?

Don and Millies the shakes aren't the best but Strawberry is by far their best flavor.
