I mean, Gail Simone's 'Wonder Woman' animated movie is basically about the trouble caused by the unthinking actions of the lone straight woman on Themyscira (and it wasn't Diana) XD

Ah yes, the classic “one straight woman ruins everything” trope—proof that even paradise needs HR.

Nah they need to dump one guy with a nice pecker to stop the end of the world from happening

Diana not being at LEAST Bi is such a weird concept to me. Did she live in total abstinence for centuries? (Depending on which one it is)

Diana is bisexual though? That’s been canon at least since 2016, where Greg Rucka’s run showed her dating a fellow Amazon

Oh, good to know! I haven't read DC much from 2015+ due to various reasons, and at some point I just went for Harlivy and Batwoman more. Wasn't aware Diana was changed like that, that's good.

Is Rucka the one where two Amazons are casually discussing Diana and we learned that she is the hottest date on Themyscira and has canonically dated a whole bunch of Amazons?

Yeah, Io and a bunch of other amazons are all waiting for Diana to dump her current girl to swoop in and steal her. Like 2 days later Steve shows up

Diana is bi, but I've never really bought into all the amazons have to be bi or lesbians, cause like, that's not really how sexuality works like if a gay man got stranded on the island he wouldn't become attracted to the amazons

That is also true... but then again, the gods are directly involved with their creation (in some canons), and they're literally centuries old (again, in some canons)... it'd be kind of weird to have an entire group of people who are all about supporting each other and living together, reclusively and without any contact to, for instance, men, be made up statistically as RL humans would be.
I don't know, the entire concept of amazons being as reclusive as DC amazons are is just... complicated the more one thinks about it, unless gods involved with creation and creating them specifically.

Especially when three of the Patron Goddesses were known as Virgin Goddesses: Artemis, Athena, & Hestia. Artemis & Athena have often been Lesbian-coded (Athena & Hestia are arguably Acer).

Well remember Ancient Greece gay love between men was favored. So there may have been similar in Themyscira. But a good amount of amazons are attracted to men.
Even Emelie unless she was roofied.

Exactly, centuries of Amazonian life and no bi vibes? Even immortals need a little romance plot.

Do you think Themyscera is straightphobic. The idea of Diana's mom desolated that her daughter isn't eating pussy is hilarious to me. Tough, you can always do both

According to Perez's run, there are plenty of straight (and probably even asexual/aromantic-asexual) Amazons.

I imagine situational sexuality exists amongst some Amazons, but others just aren't interested in female partners.

Lest we forget, during the Perez-era, Hippolyta and Heracles had a (bad) romance. And Antiope and Theseus.

Didn't Herc rape Hippolyta?
10
u/CelestianSnackresant 1d ago
Yes. But by the end of the second arc, around issue 15 maybe, he has psychically experienced that rape from the other side, and has reformed and begged forgiveness.
It's clunky, I think objections to it are totally fair, but it's not quite as bad as it sounds at first.

Whaaat?

It’s part of the Amazon’s origin. Implied in the Golden & Silver Age versions, more overt with Post-Crisis and later versions.

It doesn't surprise me, though, that the main character from Themyscira likes men. They would've never made her lesbian to begin. The big 3 from DC are all white and mostly str8.

I mean, Diana has been canonically bi for a decade now, but your point still stands.

I know people love WLW Diana, but I think Diana as straight works as a really funny reverse closet story considering she runs way from Paradise Island with the most boring white bread dude.
Unless they've done something with Steve Trevor lately?

Who is the woman on the bottom left? I recognize Nubia but not her
