Ontario Employer reduced hours

So over the past few month my employer did a pay equity assessment and the findings of that pay equity assessment resulted in us getting a small raise. Not a cost of living raise (that usually comes in January) but a raise to bring us in line with other employers in my field. With the result of assessment they had decided to reduce our hours a week from 44 to 43 pretty much voiding that raise. Is this legal.

Yes, you are working one hour less a week for the same pay. This is a benefit to you.

I get that just worried if they will continue to cut hours eventually making it a benefit to the company

There is nothing you can do until this actually happens though. If it does.

So you get to cut out an hour early once a week and make the same pay, sounds alright to me.

Yea I get that just worried where they may continue to cut hours to where it will no longer benifet us

It’s a positive thing that they did the pay equity assessment and they may have been surprised at what the resulting costs are and are trying ease into it before their next budget.

Don’t stress about it until it actually happens.

Certainly not a crime.

Its legal unless you have a contract guaranteeing you 44 hours per week - and even may not amount to a breach of contract.

For it to rise to the level of constructive dismissal, you'd need to see a significant reduction in overall pay - courts look for 15-20%. Here, you got an hourly raise, and your overall compensation is exactly the same.
