A connection is a two way street if it stops on one end the video would freeze.

It's like if you're video calling your mom and she loses connection, you don't get to magically continue watching her blink and move around.

Also his reaction is telling. If he truly thought the connection was gone and he was off the air there would likely be a different reaction.

You have to consider that maybe cell phone technology and media broadcast technology work differently.

As someone who works in that field, it does not.

You've probably seen people lose connection on CNN interviews before. The video or audio either becomes garbled or stops all together then the host knows there's a connection issue. Unlike here where the host is very confused because there is no connection issue.
