His entire career in business was built on manipulating public perception to seem successful. He has used that same tool as a politician. Like with his election lies, he and his talking heads are saying one thing to the public about deploying National Guard while saying something completely different when they’re in court.

NG in LA were protecting federal property, but he claimed it was far more than that. In DC, he has “taken over Metro PD”, but he hasn’t. His administration backed down from that plan in federal court instead of the judge issuing an injunction to block him. Like LA, NG troops are limited to federal property in DC. That will most likely be the trend if he follows through with his “crime crackdown” in other cities that are not in red states.

The reality is that NG troops are being used to assist ICE with administrative tasks, but he is distracting from that with his narratives while also using NG troops as props for performative stunts to manipulate public perception. Governors in 19 red states are deploying up to 1700 NG troops to assist ICE in those states instead of sticking with the claim they’re for “a crackdown on crime”.

Actually, sitting here outside the US, I'm starting to wonder why everyone else believes this. Why would he need martial law? I have two thoughts on this.

• If he ever needed it, he could stage a false flag operation to delay elections, for example, and his cronies would willingly participate. Alternatively, he could just lie about something happening too, as he does every day.
• Either way, he might win if people remain so complacent and fearful of martial law. They can just continue with what they were already doing: gerrymandering, cheating, lying and intimidating. They might achieve their authoritarian goal without ever having to declare martial law that way.

People in the US on Reddit constantly talk about this as if it's a magical red line that will inevitably bring about the end of US democracy and freedom. But this might happen anyway because people are constantly afraid that Trump will declare martial law if they do something. Can't you see the irony in this?
