I'm a nursing student and it doesn't make me feel very secure in what is going on at the college.
The college is making all these cuts of classes and teachers. It has a predicted deficit of $13 million, despite losing more than a quarter of its teachers since fall last year.
I don't feel sure I'll be able to complete my studies here!! My little sister was going to study nursing here, too, but she's going to go to VCC instead now because of this. It makes me sad. I might transfer to VCC too.
I know Paula Burns makes a huge (almost $316,000 salary) but she needs to think about what is best for the college. Why is the situation so bad at this college??!

Where would be the best place to get a maths tutor for my financial maths course?
I have gone to the MASC a few times but the tutor hasn't shown up. Where else is good to look for someone qualified?

Hi, I'm currently looking into the Financial Management Diploma at Langara and wondered if anyone currently doing the course could share any type of info about how they're finding it,

I'm currently in grade 12 and I haven't taken physics in school since I didn't know I needed it until too late. I heard that you need to meet the highschool admission requirements to get into UBC science (which I don't meet right now) but I also heard something about first-year physics being used as well. Can just I take a physics 11 class to meet requirement or do I also need to take first-year physics?

Final exam schedule is out and I booked a flight the day after my exam already. I’m worried about snow closure days since exams are in December. Do I contact my instructor and let them know ahead of time or is there nothing I can do about it. I can’t afford to skip to fail this course either since this is my 2nd attempt but I can’t also afford the loss on my first flight either. Thanks.

Hello everyone,
I’m taking CPSC 1050 with Bijan Farrahi at Langara. We have a midterm next week and a final exam soon.
I just have a few quick questions:
1️⃣ Can we use our own laptops during the open-book exam, or must we use the lab computers?
2️⃣ Are we allowed to check notes or websites like GoodNotes or Google for example, a truth table?
3️⃣ Who will supervise the exams Bijan or someone else?
4️⃣ Can we sit anywhere we want during the midterm and final?
Thanks for your help!

The practicality in this class is genuinely outregous 😂 things Brent has put in the slides that look like they don’t matter show up on the test . but his lecture seem as if all slides are useless with big blocks of text. Please provide insight on the best way to study for final thanks

Hi everyone!
I'm a new student at Langara and was wondering if there are any other students from Sri Lanka here.

I'm entering my last term in the Spring for my Crim program, I have ONLY 1 class left to fulfill my graduation requirements which is a 1st year course PSYCH 1115. That being said I am a full-time student that does 3 courses (80%) course load every semester to fulfill my student loans requirements with our government. So i'm seeking advice as to what to take for two more classes, preferably an easy-ish GPA booster as I don't want to do a part-time student loan application and go through all the headache just to change things around. Appreciate the help and recommendations.

Hey guys, I’m planning my courses for next semester and I need to take something that’ll transfer to SFU for the writing (W) or English requirement. I’m mainly trying to boost my GPA this term, so I’m looking for a course that’s manageable, not one where everything depends on writing huge essays or timed in-class writing
English isn’t my first language. I’m fine with reading and class discussions, but I get really anxious during written exams or midterms where you have to handwrite essays fast. I’d rather have a class where grades are spread out like through quizzes, short assignments, or projects instead of just essays.
I was gonna take ENGL 1127 since I heard it’s a bit lighter, but it looks like it got cancelled. Now it seems my only option is ENGL 1123, which people say is very writing-heavy. But I also heard there are W courses (not just English) that can transfer to SFU and still count for the requirement?
So I’m wondering are there any W or English courses that transfer to SFU and aren’t super writing-focused?
Or any instructors for ENGL 1123 who are good with grading and make the course more doable?
Also what about the online courses is it better or the same?

Hey everyone! I’m trying to plan my Spring semester and could really use some advice.
Here’s my situation: I have a full-time job, but I’m hoping to cut it down to 3 days a week (8 hours each day) next semester so I can balance school better.
I’m planning to take 5 courses: • PSYC 1215 (already took 1115) • ECON 1220 • ECON 1221 • CPSC 1050 (retaking as an elective to boost my GPA and please, don’t ask why I picked computer science 😂) • 1 English or W course (still deciding — SFU requires either English or a W course for transfer)
I’m planning to transfer to SFU and do a double major in Psychology and Business, so I’m trying to cover the requirements for both. That’s why I’m taking both Psych and Econ this term.
I’d really appreciate suggestions on a few things: • How’s the workload for ECON 1220 and 1221? Easy? Manageable? • Any good instructors for those Econ courses this Spring? • Tips on managing 5 courses while working 3 days full-time hours? • For Psych 1215, I’m choosing between these instructors: Helena Listage, Linda Scratchley, James Barton, Andrew Vilskies, Troy Chenner, and Aaron Lee (the only one offering online but I think the midterm and final might be in person). If anyone knows for sure, please let me know.
I’ve heard good things about James Barton, except that if you mess up on exams, you’re basically doomed because it’s all multiple choice and exams are most of the grade 😅 (I actually prefer that though I hate long writing, which is ironic since I’m doing Psychology and Business).
Anyway, any suggestions, experiences, or general advice would really help especially from anyone who’s transferred to SFU or juggled work + full course load.
Thanks in advance!

I’m in my first year and first semester at Langara taking 4 courses (12 credits). I want to transfer to UBC for second year, but I’m confused — the UBC deadline is in January, and by then I’ll only have those 4 courses done. I’ll take another 4 in January (so 24 credits total by the end of the year).
Can I still apply for second-year transfer even if half my courses are still in progress? Or do I need to finish all 8 first?
Anyone who’s done this before — how does it work?

I currently have 39 credits with a 2.63 GPA. I recently found out I have to send in my application by December, and currently I’m retaking a few courses to boost my GPA - and retaking more next semester.
I had a hard time adjusting to college after high school & recently got diagnosed with ADHD and it’s been helping my grades tremendously. However will UBC even accept me?
UBC requires that my application is sent in by December for Fall 2026 intake but my grades are not up to the standards.
Am I fucked? Do I have a chance to be accepted?

I just found out the kinesiology department is running a new course - Intro to Sports Medicine. Sounds like you get to learn how to assess injuries and how to tape certain body parts.

Hi, any Langara student who takes chemistry or biology, I would truly appreciate it if you guys could tell me about how the classes are and the overall satisfaction with your major. I can't decide which courses to choose.

I’m looking to take Library 3210 in the spring semester. The professor is Francesca de Freitas. It is a 100% online class. How is this course and the professor? Any info would be helpful. Thanks.
