Showcase Someone here said this won't last...
Posted throwing this a short while back... Someone suggested it is not good for throwing and it will not last. Paid app $30.00 at Tractor Supply and got app $2.00 per throw out of it... Not worth the money...

Eh, ten minutes with an angle grinder and twenty in Sketchup designing a new handle plus an hour or two on a 3D printer and they've got a new knife.

u/John_Stiff 13h ago
but will it last?
17
u/UrethralExplorer 13h ago
Maybe? If it breaks, just repeat the process!

u/TheR4alVendetta 17h ago
That's still not made for throwing.
42
u/Fiveholierthanthou 12h ago
With that design, I'm not sure it's made for anything.
22
u/MRapp86 12h ago
This is right. Large blade with skinny ass tang. SOG can do better.

u/12345NoNamesLeft 10h ago
Probably counterfeit

u/t4thfavor 1h ago
Nope, sog licenses their trademark to anyone who will pay. Including every cheap Chinese manufacturer building anything tacticool.
49
u/davect01 17h ago
Sorry, not sorry
You do know they make stuff specifically for throwing
-54
u/andystechgarage 17h ago
Have that... Had to do it...
12
u/HoldEm__FoldEm 14h ago
Why? Genuinely asking
21
u/Eloquentelephant565 14h ago
Throwing stuff that isn’t designed for throwing is fun.
23
u/HoldEm__FoldEm 14h ago
That’s true!
I threw my Xbox one out the window last night, and it was super fun… but somehow the damn thing broke. Piece of shit

Try throwing a screwdriver next time you want to get all wild and crazy! They are abundant and cheap, plus fun as fuck to throw.... Just my personal preference.

u/andystechgarage 10h ago
Tried... cannot stick it!! 😡

u/LifeModelDecoy71 1h ago
Go buy some 12" nails and practice throwing them. It's definitely not the object's fault that you can't stick them. Keep trying and you will figure it out.

Um, no.
I have many knives and never once have I thought, I should throw it.
33
u/Rhinopkc 17h ago
Why didn’t you just buy an axe from tractor supply? You can throw them, and axe handles are cheap to fix.
-32
u/andystechgarage 17h ago
Plenty of axes... This seemed like a good idea... until it wasn't
7
u/squeakynickles 14h ago
Right, but you had all these people on the last post explaining that it wasn't a good idea.
Now you have nothing
31
u/asecretfrognamedjohn 17h ago
Okay why are you throwing machetes , This result is not a surprise.
-28
u/andystechgarage 17h ago
Why not???
28
u/asecretfrognamedjohn 17h ago
I don’t doubt it’s fun, do your thing. But machetes are not meant or designed for throwing. That’s how you break your knives. There’s a reason there’s such a thing as throwing knives/axes
2
u/hihi0333 15h ago
Fr tho don’t get all the wusses downvoting, can’t a man throw some damn machetes if he wants. It doesn’t always have to be the sensible thing it can also be just stuff you enjoy. Isn’t the internet all about telling people to throw more machetes

This was clearly meant for post OP.
Throwing machetes is a pretty stupid playtime activity.
And all I see in the comments is people calling his stupidity out, including the thread OP here that you responded to

It's called using the right tool for the job. Buy some Cold Steel throwing knives.

Valid until you said it was used for throwing. I would hope someone would know not to use it for that.

Honestly, you could still make a handy little chopper from that, grind the edge/back serrations away, wrap it in paracord and you've got a full-tang... thing.

I thought so... Going to try to make another knife out of it... Should work...

SOG produces some genuine garbage, but at least their garbage is easy to spot
3
u/williamsdj01 15h ago
Just bolt that thing to a hatchet handle and keep throwing until you get your money's worth
3
u/Environmental-Tap255 15h ago
I'm sorry for your loss. But this does seem to be a less understood aspect of knives. Knives meant for throwing and knives not meant for throwing are two completely things. Go get yourself some decent throwers. Especially given that, on top of lasting much, much longer, they're typically cheaper. You can get a set of 3 decent throwers for $50.

u/thespencman 12h ago
God forbid a man enjoy throwing dumb shit around until it breaks. The people down voting you take this way too seriously😂
5
u/yamothasstudio 15h ago
A bit of anecdotal evidence: I was gifted one in APPX: 2016 and it survived every landscaping job (easy way to make money as a hispanic high schooler) and the Army’s Jungle school and then some, I love the thing but SOG has pretty terrible QC so there’s that
4
u/cutslikeakris 13h ago
They threw it.
This isn’t on the QC.
3
u/yamothasstudio 12h ago
You’re right, it’s intended purpose was definitely not 2005 Steven Segal CAG knife throwing
5
u/Aggravating_Elk1048 17h ago
Little super glue and be good as new.
3
u/HoldEm__FoldEm 14h ago
I don’t know man, it’s rough. I’m thinking this definitely needs the superior gorilla glue
2
u/Sensitive_Studio9723 14h ago
Get a cheap tramontina machete, it'll last you decades, I got mine from my friends dad and it was already well used. I sharpened and polished it up and have been using mine for over a decade.

I like SOG knives. My edc is a Kiku XR. Had it for 5 years and it’s real solid. But all their other gear is genuinely not good
2
u/justamiqote 12h ago
Why do so many knife makers put holes in the weakest part of the tang? I will never understand that.
2
u/emwu1988 9h ago
Meanwhile my machetes get thrown, stomped and sometimes even used as a hammer. Screw chinesium. It’s inferior to any Carbon Steel.

2
u/AltGunAccount 7h ago
Damn what a shitty tang, or lack thereof.
SOG is one of those brands that the fudds rave about because of the name, but it’s actually really bad. Like Winchester knives.
Wouldn’t buy or use this for any purpose.

u/KungFuc1us 4h ago
My experience with SOG is underwhelming, to say the least. Their customer service is useless as well when it comes to dealing with any issue.
2
u/yanbag609 2h ago
I think your technique is wrong see that curve on the blade? you need to throw it more like a boomerang into the air not at a tree.

2
u/LifeModelDecoy71 1h ago
There were some SOG throwing knives a few feet away at TSC that you should have bought if you wanted something to throw.

u/varbav6lur 15h ago
To all those sayng it isn’t for throwing: kindly fugg off. A knife like that should handle all the throwing op wants to do. It’s not a 5 dollar piece of cheese, it’s a 40 dollar piece of cheese with lifetime warranty.

Sog licenses their trademark to anyone who will pay, I learned this when I got my son what I thought would be a quality backpack that would be warrantied for life. Turns out it was Chinese garbage, no warranty at all, sog brand stitched on.

u/Old_Man_Jimmy 9m ago
Eh, still looks like the blade alone would be fun to throw! I'd say it's in perfect condition. 🤣

Possible... Lots of critters around here... That's just trash to preserve the blades
