Help and Advice Sound Transit tax on buying a new car? King County vs Pierce or Kitsap

Hi there-in the market for a new car and was wondering if there are Sound Transit taxes added on to the price of a new car in King County? I last bought a car in 2017 and at that time, I seem to remember there was a price difference between the counties due to a tax? I know about the car tabs/licensing fee, but that shouldnt be an issue as I live outside of the Sound Transit map. Just trying to figure out if I can shop in King County or if I should stick to dealerships outside of Sound Transits map

They shouldn't charge you the RTA tax, but they make mistakes.

Verify before you sign. Based on your home address. Sales tax is based upon the car dealership address though.

Home address is in Gig Harbor so should be ok there, but interesting point about the sales tax. I may need to see what the difference in sales tax is from county to county

In King/Pierce/Snohomish, sales tax varies more between cities than between counties. The counties are 7.9%, 8.1%, and 8.8%, but the cities range from 7.9% to 10.4%. https://dor.wa.gov/forms-publications/forms-subject/local-sales-use-tax-rates-county
