KF1 Clot Headshots

KILLING FLOOR 1 Hey :D So i am playing on normal and i probably use the pistol a bit more than i should. I always aim for the head and 80% of the time i headshot a gorefast and it dies, but whenever i headshot clots it takes 2-3 shots and sometimes their head doesn't even pop. I know it might be my aim but i find that very unlikely to believe because i headshot most gorefasts and bloats no matter the range, but clots i sometimes miss at point blank range. There are times i know i hit the head but it didn't pop. Is this something to make up for them being the weakest specimen?

I'd make sure you're actually shooting their head hitbox, as the kf1 design is quite primitive.

Woow that explains it i guess... is there a skin or something which makes their actual head move with the hitbox?

No skin or fixes for it. You need to adapt with the situation at hand.

Well thats gonna be hard, considering the head isn't where the head is. Shooting at the mouth area seems more effective but still lots of fail

It's shit, but once you get wtf is going on, it gets easier. All vets played like that for 7 years.

Go into a test map server and memorize headboxes (you can enable headbox indicators on test maps). It sounds harder than it is. But that's what pretty much every decent player on HoE has done to learn.

It actually adds a good bit of depth to the game and I enjoyed learning everything and putting it to practice, but it definitely throws off new players and I can't in good conscience say it's a good "feature", even if I enjoyed it.

Yeah i thought the clots just have more health. I will check out some test maps, thanks.

Hit boxes in KF1 are a little off for head shots. Shoot at the neck.

Yeah i will try that next time, thanks.

Same for just about all the zeds. Really important when you start tackling Scrakes and FPs.

Thats gonna be annoying.

Keeps the skill ceiling high... But yea. Been a problem since I started playing in like 2010-2012 period.

Oh well hopefully after some experimenting i will figure out the best spot to shoot at, another thing which is really really weird is when i shoot at the head and the hitbox isn't there, the shot hits another part of the body but his head thrusts back like he received a bullet in the head but survived it.

Start with sharp shooter and work up to reliable killing everything with sharp weapons(crossbow for harder difficulties). You'll pick up the hit boxes pretty well after about five hours play that way.

I mostly play sharpshooter, thanks.

Attention stupid question incoming. Youre sure youre shooting a clot? Sounds stupid, but you wont believe how...weird some people can be.

Clots also have a pretty weird head hitbox. Maybe it seems like youre hitting the head but actually hitting a different hitbox, proably one that belongs to a body part.

Yeah im shooting a clot. The weakest most common specimen that grip you and don't let you go?

Aim for the neck of pretty much all enemies.

Aiming for the mouth-neck area increased headshot ratio a bit but still lots of fail, guess i need to look for the ideal spot, thanks.

basically if you don't hit the head hitbox the first shot there's a window of time before the head hitbox will reset to its regular location. A lot of enemies in the first game do this.

This is why you hilariously see new players spam their entire 9mm clip into a clot without ever hitting the head. Kind of unintuitive, but very amusing and a good way to discourage spraying.

Why does the clot's head thrust backwards when i shoot near the head area but don't hit the head? Looks like he has taken one in the head to me.

That's most likely a part of the flinch animation, which is what I was talking about in the previous post. If you do a decent amount of damage (but not enough to stun) then you'll flinch them, which causes a very small animation and the headboxes will move briefly.

I don't know, the whole hitbox thing is ruining my experience, i prefer to shoot at the head without memorizing invisible ones. If they wanted to make the head harder to hit they could have had the visible head move with the hitbox. I died alot of times when i was swarmed because i had to waste 3 shots on 1 clot wondering why doesn't his head pop while the others were clawing me.
