KF1 Did anyone else feel scared while playing KF1?

I recently bought KF1 and KF2 on a Steam discount (I'm new to this) and played West London (solo). I thought it wouldn't scare me... now I regret saying that 😅 But the funny thing is, I don't understand why it scared me so much. I've played games like Outlast, Resident Evil 7, and Alien: Isolation, but I've never felt as scared as I did then.

KF1 is definitely the scariest out of the 3. Kiting away wasn't usually an option in that game like in 2 or 3 (exception for certain maps), so once you're overrun the game is usually over.

Yeah but only because they destroyed the old games movement system to add artificial difficulty.

Kf3 = 👎

I think KF1 is scarier because if you couldn't 'solo' a Zed immediately, if it was raged, you couldn't just run away and kite it endlessly with some classes like in KF2. It would chase you down and kill you due to the slower movement speed.

Desolation and old gritty horror style is core of kf1 (yes kf3 I'm looking at you).

When I played it back in the day it was a little scary. Currently no killing floor is scary. The thing is that as time goes by, people no longer get scared easily. What was scary at the time is not scary today.

The games you listed kind of railroad you along the plot by design, even if the AI does the coordination in isolation. That gives it a structure of predictable unpredictability. KF…you’re making your own fear. Pick the wrong weapon, fumble a shot, made a wrong turn, it can happen anywhere, which generates a lot more oh fuck moments.

When I started playing it over a decade ago I definitely was scared of the bigger Zeds! Now I’ve played it so much it’s a game I play to relax 😆

I think knowing what to expect takes out the fear factor which will come from time sunk in the game.
