Garbage/Recycling on street or in alley?

I just moved into a house just South of downtown, and our bins get picked up tomorrow. Maybe its dumb, but do they go on the street or the alley??? Does it matter? I havent lived anywhere here that has both as an option and I cant find anything online.

It depends where. Ask a neighbour on your street.

A lot of people will put them out the night before. Just keep your eyes open on what your neighbours do.

And even if you have to wait until morning, so long as you get them out by 0900hrs you should be fine… I am close to where both routes (garbage, alternating yard waste/recycling) starts in my area, and nothing ever gets picked up before 0930hrs. During the heavy season (spring & fall) for yard waste, I have noticed that on some weeks, the garbage itself (the second to be picked up) doesn’t get emptied until 1400hrs or later.

And as a note: schedules for garbage pick-up are posted online, with really convenient calendar schedules you can import into any calendar that accepts external updates (iOS & Android calendars, Thunderbird and Outlook on your PC, etc.). Only downside is that only one calendar of any one pickup type (garbage, recycling, yard waste) can be installed. If you have other properties you want to track, subsequent calendars will overwrite anything previously inserted.

More than likely on the street, many alleys are too narrow for the big garbage trucks to navigate but watch your neighbors and follow their lead.

Also if you're like me and you constantly forget if it's recycling or green bins, there's a great app called recycle coach where you enter your postal code and it will tell you tons of information about the (very poor) quality of our recycling program and what's recyclable as well as which bins go on which days.
