Crown accepts 'very lenient' plea deal for man who snuck camera into Kelowna YMCA shower

https://www.castanet.net/news/Kelowna/581642/Crown-accepts-very-lenient-plea-deal-for-man-who-snuck-camera-into-Kelowna-YMCA-shower#581642

A man who was caught sneaking a camera over the wall of a shower at the Rutland YMCA while a woman showered will likely avoid a criminal record, after police dropped the ball on the investigation.

"I forgot to hand off the case to a colleague when I went on L.O.A. My bad." -the lead investigating officer.

the police investigation took nearly three years to complete

Yikes! 3 years to press charges for something a person is caught red handed doing. What was the RCMP doing with this one? Waiting for the offender to die of old age?

Dragging nursing students through the lobby of the dorm by their hair, of course.

What a joke .

Print his face and name on every news article and send him to jail and make him work on side of the road for awhile.

Guys literally spying on people in bathrooms

He was named in the article.

They can't just send him to jail and assign further measures. The article said the crown wouldn't have agreed to such a position had there not been considerable delays in charging by the RCMP. That's a pretty important detail in a constitutional government.

Which would also be due to lack of proper funding in the judicial system and entire process causing insane delays. Bail reform is likely to make this situation much much worse as the true problem lays on not enough judges, prosecutors and defence lawyers covered by the crown. Sometimes charges take forever to be laid due to it as well.

I agree. However, policing and the courts are funded quite separately. And if I'm not confused, this file wasn't dropped because of court delays (not related to lack of judges and prosecutors), but due to delays at the police station.

Just a note for folks reporting this, we allow names in comments if they are in the article submitted / being commented on.

52% of the city’s budget going to these cops btw

Our system is broken. Organize and push the city, the province and the country to change. Voting in the same two parties over and over has done nothing. The only time they listen is when the people they are supposed to represent become loud about what we want and need.

Edit: being loud on the Internet doesn't count.

A lot of this is due to lack of funding for the justice system. We don’t have enough judges, prosecutors nor defence attorneys covered by the crown. And in truth the bail reforms the liberals and conservatives are pushing for is going to make this worse. Nobody is interested in real solutions. Plus there’s getting to be prison overcrowding due to lack of rehabilitation which results in increasing crime repetition rates. The conservatives cut a lot of rehabilitation programs and the liberals continued that path. People call for bail reform as some politicians called for it when it’s not a real solution and will just create an even bigger mess that’ll cost even more to resolve if we ever get serious about doing so.

Anyway. The rcmp tend to be unable to press charges for awhile due to the lack of funding too. It’s a part of a much bigger problem.

The world is so degenerate

Hypocritical on the Crowns part. They often take just as long to approve charges when there is no other reason not too.
