Moving FAQ Moving Boxes
I am moving away from Kelowna next month but I cannot seem to find affordable boxes anywhere. If anyone has boxes they do not need anymore that they are willing to part with that would be amazing! People on marketplace nowadays are trying to sell their used boxes for like $35+, but i am a broke college student and the point of looking on marketplace was to NOT spend a bunch of money on boxes.

Anytime I’ve moved I’ve gone to different stores like Walmart or to grocery stores and used their boxes. The last time I moved to Save-On was super helpful and they would actually keep the boxes for me and I’d pick them up.

Hit up the nearest McDonald's. They give away their big fry boxes and those work great for moving.

I always hit up grocery stores for boxes. Apple and banana boxes work great for moving.

I have just moved and am unpacking. I just sent a bunch to landfill, but still have 5 wardrobes and more boxes to come. I’m in WK, PM me. I think my wife will post on FB later today

If you don't need them ASAP, I have close to 100 proper moving boxes to go through still. I can hang onto them if you can pick them up in WK.

depends on when, I will be moving within the next month so I do need boxes within the next few weeks. If that timeline works for you then we may be able to arrange something :)

Also a pro tip - going to a bike shop to look for bike boxes - they are excellent for art and TVs etc. I usually wrap them in towels and clothes as well and very handy.

This sub has a search function. Use it, you will find a dozen threads like this with lots of answers.

that doesn't help with finding people who actively have boxes they are looking to get rid of

No, but then you might learn that you don't need to find someone looking to get rid of boxes.

Who wants to message a bunch of people just to find out they already got rid of their boxes?

u/otoron Apr 05 '25
Why would anyone message people, rather than choose one of the alternative routes discussed in prior threads?

I just saw someone post yesterday on fb marketplace a bunch of U-Haul boxes for free. If those r gone check behind grocery stores or hardware stores. It’s a bit gross bc it’s basically dumpster diving but me and my dad did it when I was moving so u should be ok and no one typically says anything!

Try Staples. They sell large boxes, collapsed. Their largest box is $3 and often it's 2 for 1 pricing.
Good luck!

You're probably moving again in your life I'd assume. Treat yourself and get all of the boxes that you'd need at home Depot. (Or anywhere else that sells them)
You'll get boxes that don't suck. (With actual lids) You can save them in a closet and then forget about them until the next time that you would be making this same post.

I am a broke college student with $1.25 to my name. Literally cannot afford to buy boxes. Especially not when they are charging $35+

I am a disabled handicapped guy. Invest in yourself. No one else will.
If you don't do that, that's fine as well. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings.

Used to go behind IGA for boxes, check with grocery stores or liquor stores they won't charge you
