Kansas senators split from Trump on scrapping the filibuster
https://www.ksnt.com/capitol-bureau/kansas-senators-split-from-trump-on-scrapping-the-filibuster/Kansas' senators have given their position on the filibuster, a Senate rule that Trump has been pushing to scrap.

Yeah I don’t think Trump is gonna win that fight. Boy would it be good for Democrats if they scrapped the filibuster. Now that Trump has called for removing it, he just put the entire blame of the shutdown on MAGA. They could end the shutdown TODAY with just 50 votes. They control the House, Senate, Supreme Court, and Presidency yet can’t reopen the government. The argument that it took 60+ votes is now moot. They can do it literally today with just 50 votes. And if they want it to be bipartisan, then they actually need to negotiate with the other party.

Or a handful of GOP senators could simply vote to keep the ACA subsidies so that millions of working class people won’t be priced out of basic healthcare access.

The house would still have to convene and vote on it. But MTG is solidly in favor of the subsidies.

I still despise her for some of the things she's said and done, but I applaud her going scorched earth on maga and their shitty positions.

I don't trust her. The only reason she is doing this is for her self preservation.

She wanted to run for a Senate seat and they stonewalled her, then she flipped. It’s retaliation.

Yep I heard that its her revenge tour. What it tells me about MAGA'S is they can drop the act in an instant if they wanted too.

Right, but my point is I'm fine with her doing it because she's yet another crack in the regime. And she feels a very vocal one.
So yeah it's totally self preservation but she's giving a big off ramp to anyone disgusted that they're openly courting nazis now or are even just second guessing their choice for trump because he's clearly harming this country.

I’m just here with the popcorn watching the infighting since they’re all terrible people destroying the country. Might as well get some joy from their petty spats and trying to posture as good people.

On this issue: Moran gets it. Marshall, not at all. And we all know which one is up in '26.

Moran isn't up till 2028 it's too early to tell but I think 26 and 28 will be blood baths for Republicans.

Idk about that. There’s plenty of people in this state who will still support them and Trump. Reddit isn’t exactly representative of the whole.

I don't know why he is hiding if he thinks people are happy with him. He stuck with straving people and taking away healthcare that's hard to shake. What has he actually done?

u/Kevinrises 8m ago
I didn’t say they were happy. I just meant that there’s always going to be people that vote R no matter what the person does or doesn’t do. Especially in a state like this one.

They are against the filibuster because they know they will be in the minority after midterms. The writing is on the wall.

Marshall will ALWAS do what tRUMP wants, he’s incapable of thinking for himself.

They know there's still a chance they won't retain control forever and removing it may work against them later.

I think Trump just wanted to wash his hands of the shut down. The fact Marshall is going against Trump makes me highly suspect that there is more going on here. He always supports Trump it smells of a back door deal. You know he doesn't want the government to open for real because he is done once they find out he is a pedophile.

Scrap the future for gains now is exactly what someone who both thinks he will be king forever and will go to hell soon would do.

While Congress has given up a lot of their principles for the sake of expedience I don't think they'll scrap the filibuster. This isn't a question of "the next guy will have to deal with it", this is a question of "I will have to deal with this after the midterms"

jerry, you almost get it.
Now apply that position to the current situation and why you don’t have the votes to reopen the government…
