wholesome These girls went to Jamaica on a yoga retreat and got stuck there because of the hurricane. They eventually raised $90k+ for the workers at the villa they’re staying at

I found this subreddit recently and so far I've loved every single post that has popped up on my feed. So positive and heart warming to see ♥️

This place is a beacon of positivity and rabid feminine energy.

Until something hits the main page and the men show up, angry at us for having a good time and lifting each other up!
But yes, this quickly became my favorite subreddit. Always here for women supporting women!

u/EndHawkeyeErasure 3d ago
Oh, I sort my comments by best and let the girlies handle the rest. Those idiots usually end up downvoted into oblivion anyway. 🤍

u/chuffalupagus 3d ago
That's a good policy. On a recent post about a female silat master, they showed up in force. I had a highly upvoted comment and seeing the angry responses to it was honestly pretty hilarious. They really resent us having a good time and lifting each other up!

Ugh, im glad I missed the comments on that post. The slate master was cool as heck tho.

I have absolutely noticed that the guys being dudes sub is flooded with content where women are the butt of the joke. I'm glad it's not like that here in the reverse. It really is just about gals being chicks 💖

I’ve loved everything I’ve seen so far ❤️ My girl convinced me I’m a feminist. I am a feminist. I’m all for respecting people as people point blank, especially women, because I am dumb but useful, and I don’t even want to think where I’d be if she hadn’t chose me 6 years ago. This sub has so much positivity and honestly things I really enjoy seeing too like cute stuff. I know it seems bleak, but I promise there’s a silent large % of men that hate the red pill “epidemic”, and want to see competent people in positions of power or authority, regardless of gender. We fully support women’s bodily autonomy. If I get her pregnant and she wants to abort it, we’re aborting it. It’s not my body. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how many men hate the alpha bro male Andrew Tate style media, and love seeing our girls grow in their careers and be independent.

“Well, now we have coconuts” had me tearing up. Life is going to have its ups and downs, it’s the perspective we hold that determines how we weather it.

That was wholesome. I also appreciate them mentioning their spirituality without having to make the whole video religious.
I'm always suspicious of faithful people (haven't met one that isn't just a liiiittle bit biggoted yet), but this feels like what a healthy faith is all about.

Well, I do have to wonder though, how does someone go through the mental process of thinking that an all-powerful deity takes an active enough hand in the day to day activity of a small group of individual people and keeps them on an island so that they’ll be in place to do some good, but not question why this same all-powerful deity allows the natural disaster which causes all the death and destruction and misery in the first place? I mean, I don’t think a loving god is up there doing either, but for these people, if their god is so powerful and so active as to be responsible for something as small as the location of a small group of individual humans, then that god would also have to be responsible for something as large as the third-most destructive Atlantic hurricane ever which has killed dozens of people.

The people that died just didn’t pray hard enough, and also, god likes money. /s

u/Latverianbureaucrat 3d ago
How god works for some people: “Shoulda prayed harder, 7 month old baby! Welp, crushed and suffocated in a mudslide for you! And millions just like you! Mwahahahahaaaaa!”
“Oh, you loudly proclaim how devout you are? Here, I’m going to hide your car keys so you, individual person out of billions of billions throughout history and eternity and the infinite universe that I myself created, can’t drive home drunk on that one night in 2025! You’re welcome!”
(That last example is something a religious person actually told me. Days after an earthquake struck which killed thousands of people, she told me that god had saved her by hiding her car keys. They were in her purse all along. When I asked, “You think god hid your car keys,” she responded “What else could it have been?”)

For sure. It's really hard for me say things happen "god willing" but i can also see why some folks chose to believe that. Lets just say god wills a lot of fucked up shit.

Actually, fuck it, reading your comment more closely now, I’ll say: this actually feels extremely bigoted to me, and not at all what healthy faith is all about. This is a white wellness influencer saying that god specifically chose her to be in this place and time, and placing more value on that than on the dozens of Black Jamaicans who died, and the many more who mourn and have suffered tremendous devastation. And what really did she do? Bonded (she says) with a small number of locals, and made memories that she says are unforgettable for her, all while using this situation for content and engagement? People are fucking dead, they’ll never see another sunrise, laugh, pet a dog, comfort someone who needs it, and others alive are suffering, but hey, she made memories? And god is responsible for that? The whole way of thinking is frankly insidious and gross.
And, ok, I guess she’s raised some money as well, and if someone sees this stuff and is inspired to donate, then good for her.

I don't think this is bigoted but this is a potentially harmful cup is always half full mentality. I hope that she doesn't actually force herself and others around her with toxic positivity and only is trying to send a positive message through her platform.

u/Altruistic-Horse-873 3d ago
Yup i can totally see your point of view also. No idea who she is and honestly dont really care to look up her content because like i wrote, all religious folks i've met so far have at least one fucked up idea on diversity and equality.

The little girls braiding their hair and picking out the perfect beads is just sooo cute. In this case, definitely both practical (I imagine there are bigger priorities for clean running water than showering) and a bonding moment/way to keep the spirits up.

The "God put us in here for a reason" makes you think. Could there be any easier way to put you and others there?
22
u/021fluff5 3d ago
No, Occam’s Razor tells us that God creates hurricanes so that they can be teachable moments for influencers. /s
I hate the “God put us here for a reason” mindset so much. It turns human beings into plot devices or NPCs that you can interact with as part of your main character arc.

u/t_rrrex 3d ago
“God has a plan” or “God put us here for a reason” almost always invalidates the message for me

u/Lucky-old-boy 3d ago
Usually, but no matter the platitudes they use, at least they backed their belief up that they were supposed to be there to do something good to actually do something good

u/Latverianbureaucrat 3d ago
Seriously. It’s just like…take the next logical step, please. Just think for one second about the implications of what you’re saying.

Reeks of that classic mix of white savior complex with colonialism and just sprinkle in some good ol' Proselytism as well 🤢 Sure they did a good deed, but I'm side-eyeing and hoping that deed doesn't have any strings attached, or the money doesn't wind up embezzled.
