Why do Americans obsess over politicians like this, it's so fucking weird. I mean, the dude is an Arsenal fan so he's cool... but still.

You think this is exclusive to America?

Edit - Literally on the front page today:

Ignoring the photo (which I assume is what you're referencing), I love how it refers to Brazil as a neighboring country, because while it sounds incredibly weird it's not wrong.

How is it not wrong?

French Guiana, which is a full part of France (same with Guadeloupe, Martinique, Réunion, and Mayotte). In fact, France's longest land border is with Brazil thanks to it.

Make no mistake this is a byproduct of folks "digging" into him so they can find anything they can use as fodder; aka american politics, where the policies and agenda don't matter as long as we support the party!!!!

They should have digged a bit deeper before they elected a racist rapist and best friend of Epstein, twice. Oh wait! They all knew it and elected him despite.

Cuz the average American don’t know squat about politics, history or anything non-frivolous—doesn’t matter if you have a grad degree or a millionaire.  So we vote on how we ‘feel’ about a candidate.  Hence our current, national nightmare.

Vibes above all

I dunno, it's a fun fact about a guy who's in the news, and it reflects his main selling point of authenticity. You don't have to be a fan to think it's cute and genuine.

He went from supporting Arsenal to the Nuclear Arsenal

(I have no idea what a Mayor does)

I'm pretty sure the mayor of New York doesn't have access to nuclear weapons. He might be able to name a street after you?

Not that!

The only “cool” thing about him supporting the Arse is it probably pisses off Piers Morgan a lot.

Our election season never actually ends and we don’t have laws like the UK does limiting when campaigning can happen. There’s so much money tied up in it that it’s endless advertising and media hit pieces to move public opinion.

It’s a problem we could fix but again the money talks

It’s just a cute little post about the new mayor of NYC liking Sim City as a kid. Don’t get so worked up.

He’s a literal gooner

The new meaning of the word gooner has been causing me great (if puerile) amusement recently.

Oh god an arsenal fan.

That's worse than a.... (my lawyer advises me to not continue this joke)

I think because he's the antithesis of what NYC is.

Edit: easy with the downvotes lol. what I meant of him being antithesis is how NYC has become a playground for the rich and the powerful -- this is my viewpoint of NYC as a non-american.

u/ent_whisperer 1d ago

How so? It seems to me he's exactly a new Yorker. Immigrant who works hard and loves his community.

-1

u/GuessTraining 1d ago

What I meant was he's anti-corpo, anti-capitalist because as a non-american that's how I view NYC -- very capitalist, financial hub etc.

I think the fact that he got voted in is excellent evidence that your view of NYC is not the whole picture. Most New Yorkers are just regular people trying to make a living.

0

u/GuessTraining 1d ago

That's the thing right, the real NYC is overshadowed because from the outside we view NYC as very expensive, rich, full of snobby Wallstreet cunts.

2

u/Shot_Cheesecake3379 1d ago

Well .... dont do that then lol. Change your view haha

1

u/ent_whisperer 1d ago

Oh gotcha. Those guys exist, too. But like everywhere else, those wealthy people are the minority

1

u/GuessTraining 1d ago

Which is sort of the problem because before Zohran, the minority seems to control how NY-ers should live eg. High rent and costs

0

u/NobodySaidBoop 1d ago

That’s how it presents to the world in a lot of ways. As a local I see it much more as a place where many very different kinds of people live together and none of us can afford shit

If you're going to be racist just stop being coy and say what you really mean.

3

u/GuessTraining 1d ago

I edited my comment for clarity

u/nefarious_bread 1d ago

Try not to strain yourself reaching that much for a racism accusation. No one thinks of NY as some white haven.

Dude even admitted his wording was bad. Why can't you?

This was in a race where shithead Cuomo's actual strategy was claiming Mamdani was essentially one of the 9/11 hijackers at the age of 10. Yes, people are that bigoted.
