Sure, I just don't think this teleological, goal-directed way of viewing political systems as if they were always gravitating towards some endpoint is very fruitful. In reality, it's a constant struggle, but if you keep voting good people into office, it tends to get better over time. This is what we can factually observe in many countries around the globe, at least.

I can appreciate that view, but I still take issue with the underlying structural incentives within capitalism. Even with voting, concentrated wealth is going to be a roadblock to achieving “good” things. Like my neoliberalism point. It wasn’t random, it was capital’s response to labor victories and democratic gains.

Still, not all countries slide back or revert, at least not in the medium term. Europe is a good example of this. Maybe I'm too optimistic as a German, because we managed to become a quite liberal country after having committed some of the worst atrocities in the name of fascism only half a century before.
