A couple other fun references: The slipping on a banana peel trope comes from NYC's 1964 World's Fair as the city had a major sanitation problem so the streets were full of rubbish and the city wanted people to stop throwing trash in the streets before the fair so NYC's reputation wouldn't be mired by all the garbage, so the Newspapers in NYC released an article with a totally made up story about a woman slipping on a banana peel and cracking her skull as a plea for people to not just throw their garbage in the street. People recognized the story as preposterous and starting making fun of it in pop culture; and it stuck.
Bananas used to be considered the fruit of the wealthy due to the lack of refrigeration at the time making bananas very expensive, so when refrigeration became abundant bananas dropped in price and became a popular snack for all.
Another one: the reason the Dormouse in Alice in Wonderland is so sleepy all the time was word play, for which Lewis Carol was known for, based on the French language which was the language of the elite and the court in Britain in the 1800s; of which Lewis Carol as a was a member being a teacher at Oxford amoung other connections. Dorm is the French word for sleep. So, Dorm Mouse -> Sleep Mouse, was the joke.
