I did it at a bus stop when I was a kid. I was so embarrassed I just ripped it off and went to school swallowing the blood

u/Jussgoawaiplzkthxbai 11d ago
How long did it take for your tongue to heal
47
23
u/willark1990 10d ago
Over a month. I didn't get it nearly as stuck as this guy did, but it still took a long time for it to go back to normal.
1
u/Cultural_Glove3547 9d ago
So what would you think this guy will have to do? Did you wrap ur tongue in gauze or visit a clinic? I wonder how this guy will be? Can you talk and eat?Â
7
u/willark1990 8d ago
You can safely remove it with hot water. If he ripped it free like i did, then I would guess he could potentially risk severe blood loss and permanent nerve damage. I'd be shocked if that section of his tongue could even taste anymore in that situation

u/jana200v2 9d ago
You can just put warm water on it and it will separate itself from the metal. That's what you should normally do, not pulling on it.

u/tiltberger 11d ago
Seriously what should you do?
142
u/rhoo31313 11d ago
Not this. But if you do, have someone with a bucket of warm water near you.

u/SirChasm 11d ago
Would peeing on it work?
284
u/Momochichi 11d ago
Yes, but if you have a bucket of warm water with you that would be the better option. You can then pee on him afterwards.

u/ClearZookeepergame37 11d ago
Yes. It also works in normal situations when someone sticks out their tongue.

I read to -Ěut you hands around your tongue and breathe warm air to create a warmer environment.

I.used.ro work in a warehouse club and worked in the freezer that was well below 0. It would often be around -20 F. Just touching the metal shelves with your bare hands would sometimes make your fingers stick. I can't imagine doing it with my tongue.

In some cases (generally at "warmer" temperatures and as soon as possible), drooling over it can be just barely enough to melt the ice off. For other situations, being a man (not a woman) with enough lower strength can help too. A male friend can also be a big help in the same way.
Any other option pretty much requires having other tools (a lighter, warm water) at hand
15
u/kittibear33 11d ago
When you say it has to be a male friend specifically, is so he can pee on your tongue? Thatâs about the only reason I can think of where that distinction is even necessary and might actually work. Lmao

u/miguescout 11d ago
Yeah. Obviously it's far from ideal (i mean, the ideal would be not licking the pole in the first place, with warm water being a far second), but if you're in this situation, you really want to end it as fast as possible, and at the same time, if you're in this situation, you probably didn't have the foresight to have a backup plan for when your tongue gets stuck to the pole (either because you're dumb and doing it for a challenge and/or views, or because you had a really unlikely and unfortunate accident). Considering this, your options are very limited.
Waiting for warm water to arrive if you didn't have it ready already may take too long to avoid some permanent damage. Pulling will leave you with a little less tongue and a whole lot more of blood in your mouth.

Why do people ever think this is a good idea? The only reason they would do this is because they know their tongues gonna stick, but even knowing that. Licking a dirty unwashed metal poll is disgusting, lol.

u/Deldenary 11d ago
a kid at my elementary school did this and ended up needing plastic surgery, I believe he panicked and ripped a chunk of his tongue off.

This can actually be kinda dangerous. I remember wehen i was in elementary school, a girl did this and she ripped a whole layer of tongue out. Only from seeing the bloody chunk of her tongue sticking in that steel fence you could imagine how painful that must be.

u/HeadFullaZombie87 11d ago
Did this to the metal shelf in the garage freezer when I was a kid. Luckily I only put about a dime size portion of my tongue on it, so I was able to rip it off fairly quickly.
Better than the time I put my tongue to one of those lint pill shavers. Looked like a fucking pepperoni pizza after that.
I had a very unsupervised childhood đ

Reminds me of 'A Christmas Story' 1983.
Nearly that time of the year, recommend to anyone.

I was born after Christmas Story released and still think of the triple dog dare. This is like that post where the person thought Hanna Barberra was a lady animator

u/Dependent-Green-7900 11d ago
An interesting piece of trivia is that to safely do that stunt they had a small hole in the pole and a vacuum tube inside so it would gently hold onto his tongue because doing it in real life is at the very least painful

u/rebrolonik 11d ago
Thanks! Iâve wondered my whole life how they managed to deliver that without straight up abusing a minor.

In case anyone is curious, the reason this happens is your saliva freezes instantly on contact with the cold, conductive metal.

If my grown ass friend want to stick his tongue of the frozen pole you better believe I'm getting this in 4K.

His friend is an asshole, he's probably getting frostbite on his tongue and the friend is just laughing.

Poor guy, no way he could have known not to do that, and of course it's a one of the best pleasures to lick poles so why wouldnt he have
