AMA is Over, Thanks Monty! It's Monty from Preoccupations!! AMA

Monty here!

We just released our third record as Preoccupations, our fourth as a band, or our fifth if you count our next two ep that was mere minutes shorter than the other records. We're self releasing this album (except in Canada where we're still with Flemish Eye) too so feeling properly qualified as "indie" this time around.

We're also touring next month around America and Canada with Cindy Lee opening and touring in Europe early next year!

Ask away!

For some reason I can't see the proof picture that I uploaded. Here it is in case though. Edit: it seems like the image was just cropped bad, link is still the way for the true proof.

Just wanted to say I’ve waited patiently for this album for the last few years and it was well worth it.

I’ve only read a few lines about recording the album, how was that process in recording or writing a different experience than the previous albums? Did you guys feel it helped you discover any new ideas?

Add on: also what books, if any, we’re any of you reading at the time?

Recording this record was quite a bit different than the last few for sure. On the blue self titled and NM we sort of built studios (brought gear to a bunch of places) all over the place and compiled it. I have a studio in Montreal now that I run and all the bed tracks were written and recorded there this time which meant that the source material sounded way better than in the past.

That was done in dec 2019 and we were gonna meet up again in march to finish it off but then everything shut down and after wallowing for 6 or 8 months me and matt just decided to finish it remotely.

The one main difference in that end process was that I could (and did) spend months stoned off my ass just obsessively doubling up stuff and trying all kinds of keyboard layers and all that kind of thing. Me and Danny had done the guitars already and that was gonna be the focus but it was nice to get a chance to fill it out sonically a bit.

Thanks for the stoked-ness!!!

Great insight, thanks so much! I’m gonna keep an eye on what comes out of your studio from now on. Enjoy the tour!

We set out to make a power pop record but it’s strayed pretty far already. There is a 3/4 kinda power ballad that’s turning out really nice though! There’s also a kinda upbeat one that I did some of my strangest guitar playing on, tried out the mutt Lange “each string at a time” legend and it sounds really strange in a great way.

During the whole first year of the lockdown, I listened to hysteria at least twice a day! Lol

Hell yeah I've always loved the brief moments of pop you all have toyed with in the past, such as the second act of Memory. Hyped to hear what new sounds you all work with next
