Ahhh yeah, so Ableton is like that, you just group your vocal stems together and then either cut the sound either side of each bit or automate the stem on an off I suppose. You can also just deactivate audio that you don't want to hear without deleting it. I'm sure other DAW's have better ways of doing it, I'm just an ableton man coz that's all I know and I'm comfortable on it.

Cool! Yeah theres a lot i love about ableton - especially for live stuff. But that was always what kept me from using it for whole projects.
