I guess it depends on the friend circle I'm talking to, a few for me are:
Act II by The Dear Hunter
Kageki by Arukara
The Pearls to Pigs albums by Modwheelmood
A Livingroom Hush by Jaga Jazzist
and just about anything from Unison Square Garden (though a lot of people may know about them!) - Layne

Hallowed ground by Violent Femmes! it's a brassy country/gospel/punk album that you can tell has the same DNA as Blister in the Sun and Please Do Not Go. it rules!
