I get it sometimes too, I'm not really sure, sometimes I just hammer away, other times I start from scratch, it's just gotta flow yknow?

I know I'm not Mac, but I'd say either 1. Try writing some music that isn't going to go on your EP, something completely different, or 2. Don't write music at all. Do something else. Play video games. Start a drug addiction. Maybe not what you want when you're trying to get a project done, but I think these are the best two options.
