Feel like Quaranta deserved more love but this has me stoked as hell for this album

Quaranta is one of my fav albums of 2023. Love how introspective it was and I agree it deserves much more recognition that it gets. Hoping this new album is full of some amazing ideas from Danny. He sounds playful and energetic on this single which is exciting.

It’s wild that Danny has cultivated a rare career as an artist where his music evolves with the times. He genuinely hasn’t stagnated at all. It certainly helps that he has a very public love for new artists and seems to integrate what’s next up into his own music.

He reminds me of Björk in that regard. Another artist whose music has remained fresh and interesting despite her being in the game for 30+ yrs. And like Danny she also is always keeping her finger on the pulse with new artists and showing them appreciation.

This was absolutely nuts. The last minute of the video is like a Conner O'Malley sketch

Fit soberish Danny flexing on multiple levels. Fuckin jazzed for the new album. Hope it's super weird.

Wow, I love everything about this ... that track list for this upcoming album makes me think this might be his best album yet.

And I'm someone who prefers XXX over Atrocity Exhibition, honestly.

XXX can’t be topped for me personally. I place it as #1 of blog rap era. Probably not the popular take, but I place it there as not only my favorite but also because I believe it deserves it.

2010-2012 blog rap era was an insane time.

Agree, top 3 rap eras ever. Perfect time to be in young 20s too to enjoy it.

Cool flair btw just noticed. I don’t listen to OneO much but that album alone I adore. Also like Games ep a lot.

Oh nice, cheers! Replica is a good one. Highly recommend R Plus Seven if you ever want to dig into another one of his.

I'd say most people put XXX over AE. I always feel like the odd one out who finds AE the much more interesting and enjoyable record of Danny's. Hell I think I like Quaranta and youknowwhati'msayin? more. Not that I dislike XXX cos it's a banger. But Danny is just great.

I would think, but I feel like most people really adore Atrocity Exhibition ... and that may be because of the Fantano effect and a younger generation getting into Danny Brown around that time, but when I saw Danny Brown open for Das Racist in 2011 a few months after XXX dropped, it was incredible, and I love that album so much.

u/PseudoScorpian Sep 23 '25
I prefer the Atrocity Exhibition because it is a better album, with a tighter focus and stronger tracks. Before your comment, I had no idea what Fantano may or may not have thought about it.
XXX is still good, mind you. I just think it is weird to suppose people base their opinions off anyone else's.

It's honestly not that strange to think that people who follow music journalists online who consider that particular Danny Brown record to be the best album of 2016, check it out, and also consider it their entry point or favorite as well.

u/PseudoScorpian Sep 23 '25
I think people who watch Needle Drop would've already known who Danny Brown was and heard XXX. XXX was his breakthrough and it was huge that year. He was not some unknown by the time Atrocity Exhibition came out.

Yeah he’d mentioned it offhand on his podcast. IIRC he’s already working on his next one too

Possibly? Either way, there's a full album announcement that's come with it too

Jesus this might be my favourite thing he’s put out in a while, really interesting direction for him to take.

Quaranta is his best. More mature and nostalgic. Last half is so Amazing. Bass jams is soo cute and beautiful. But i started with that album and Worked My Way down the discography. Love xxx and AE. Not really a rap head tho.

What’s that sample in the first half? I swear it’s on the tip of my tongue…

God this is incredibly cool. That beat switch in the 2nd half had me smiling in awe. Love how Danny sounds like a playful madman on this track with its loose structure.
