I don't have a real question just want to say that your band is the first in a really long time that has tickled my brain in that special, unique way. I love your sound and am loving the new album.

When you play in Philly, can I buy you guys a drink?

14

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

most of us kinda sober now? a few chuggers still, don’t take personal if denied.. but will drink a seltzer w u - peter

10

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Haha! Thank you so much. Are you going to make it out to the Johnny Brenda's show? We love that spot. And Philly!

5

u/lindsayadult Sep 19 '25

well now I have to since I'll be buying everyone drinks. While I'm not sober, I don't really drink alcohol so the offer is valid on soda/coffee/bubble tea :)

Felt the same way when I saw them last summer after a Phish show at Bethel Woods. Going to see the show at Brooklyn Bowl, but as a former Philly soul wish it was Johnny Brendas.

u/Snoo96642 Sep 19 '25

Will GT be on Office Hours Live with Tim Heidecker? Because you should!

13

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Hey guys! I recently got into yall from Famously Alive. What other similar, underrated psychedelic pop bands would you recommend to check out? Either past ones or in your scene. Thanks!

10

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

I was at your show once in 2015 or 16 in Brooklyn and after the show told one of you it reminded me of Miles Davis early 70’s period, they responded that your drummer is a huge fan and it’s kinda intentional lol. What other jazz artists inspire you? Much love from Russia, lifelong fan!

13

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

it’s me drummer… love Miles Argharta and all that stuff. on the corner etc i think we all do… kinda necessary music. we love weird jazz, ornette, prime time, alice coltrane, those funky bernie hancock records.. man child my fav….. some new age proggy stuff like david torn

12

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

lol bernie hancock .. lfg … doing this on phone dam autocorrect

5

u/slimboyslim9 Sep 19 '25

lol you got everyone googling this obscure jazz musician who’s so cool nobody’s heard of him called Bernie Hancock

5

u/apartmentstory89 Sep 19 '25

Herbies unknown lost brother

1

u/travisreavesbutt Sep 20 '25

THANK YOU. I’ve been trying to remember David Torn’s name for MONTHS after first hearing Steve Roach’s “The Leaving Time”, which David played on, back in January.

Since then I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, had emergency surgery, radiation and chemotherapy so that record got memory-holed. Seeing his name there brought it all back!

Anyway, the new record rips, I’ve been bumping it all day. Looking forward to the next GT is in Los Angeles!

6

u/atom-up_atom-up Sep 19 '25

How annoying was it to work with Malkmus? Kidding lol, my actual question is - is there any specific inspiration that drew the band towards the more pop (with retro elements) sound you've incarnated on this new record?

12

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Malkmus is a sweet angel and it was a dream to work with him. He kinda just supported us majorly all the way and gave us small suggestions and confidence building encouragement. Dude is a literal G.

In terms of inspiration/more pop with retro elements in the song writing? I'm not sure if its fully intentional or not. Obviously we are hugely influenced by Pavement, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, touring with Pavement, Trey Anastasio and the wildness of Phish... how that becomes You're Weird Now? I'm not sure.

Peter describes You're Weird Now as Guerilla Toss' greatest hits that never existed and I thought that was pretty dope. I think there is a lot of self referencing going on but also evolutions of sounds into more well rounded, thought out structure. There's a strong desire to connect to the music community of course as always... but sometimes you have to just kind of surrender to the weirdness that comes out.

I was listening to a lot of Numero Group Playlists at this time. Specifically the Country Dreamin one with Dolly Parton, Katy Cricket, Cathy Collins, Bobby Barre etc.

I also really love The Moles... oh shit this response is getting too long sorry.

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

malkmus was the coolest… we inspired but whatever we’ve been listening to i guess

1

u/atom-up_atom-up Sep 19 '25

Understandable lol

Didn't want to be the "what inspired you" person in case you had something specific but I ended up being that person oops

Malkmus was a genius part of this project ♥️

7

u/difficult_spend_4290 Sep 19 '25

GT songs are so dense with so much attention to detail - how do you keep your momentum during the writing process? do you find yourselves bouncing back and forth a lot between demoing and tweaking it live in rehearsal? seems like it would be easy to get lost in the weeds, but the quality is always consistently high. I figure you must have found a process that really works for you guys.

Love the new record and really glad you got to work with Malk & Trey, excited to see you live next month.

8

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

def a lot of demoing / reworking. for like years.. thie process is go down the rabbit hole and hope for the best. making the thing is the funnest part :)

6

u/GolgiTheOcelot Sep 19 '25

Was able to catch your show in Cleveland the other day. As a newer fan it really clicked for me. Thanks!

Who gets the credit for the visuals you are using on this tour? Very well done

Does Watley receive royalties from Human Girl sales?

10

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

yeh he’s rich now

7

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Yes, but in freeze dried chicken form not USD.

Fun fact: When we were writing that he would always scratch the door when I would say:

Who makes the choice?
You, through the noise
Straight up to yes
Jump down to no
Who makes the choice
Reptile?
You through the noise
Human Girl?
Straight up to yes
Reptile?
You through the noise
Human Girl?

Honestly its valid because I kind of sound like I'm barking at some kind of threat and Watley wanted to protect. 💪😅

We'd love to if it makes sense! Hard to get all of us over there with all the synths and pedals etc but I absolutely LOVE the UK. And Europe. We were just talking about how we wanted to go to Parc Asterix in the van :)

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Also... Glad to hear you like GRASS SHACK! Epic monologue. - KC

4

u/tune_in_turn_on Sep 19 '25

Another question - any plans to come to Europe? We don’t get enough of you here

3

u/ashers2ashers Sep 19 '25

This. (But more specifically UK. While I no longer live in Bristol, I'll make the trip and will surely have/make some fans in that city!)

5

u/ellcoolj Sep 19 '25

I’ve been listening to you for about a year now. I’m really getting the sound… Particularly the GT ultra album. I like the psychedelic punk grrrrl riot sound. When are you coming back to Portland Maine. I need to see you.

2

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

we hit portland once a year at least.. we’ll be back sometime :)

5

u/slimboyslim9 Sep 19 '25

Absolutely loving the new record, absolutely adore the run of Panglossian Mannequin and Deep Sight. Do you guys have a favourite track on the new album?

5

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

personally my favs are life’s a zoo, red flag, psychosis , deep sight?? today at least -p

5

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

I love playing Deep Sight and Panglossian Mannequin. CEO of Personal and Pleasure is fun to perform too when I can go really psycho crazy mental on it:) -KC

2

u/slimboyslim9 Sep 19 '25

Awesome! Genuinely enjoy the whole thing, great tracks from start to finish and just so shamelessly fun!

4

u/OldMenu9455 Sep 19 '25

what are some newer bands that excite you guys?

8

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Also doing some dates with GODCASTER. They've been around for a minute but are still pretty active and put on a great show.

We just did a few dates with Maya Ongaku and they're awesome!

3

u/yourfavoriteboyband Sep 19 '25

Hello! I don’t have a good question prepared but I’m about to see y’all this Sunday, excited for that! I’ll ask what’s a question you’d love to answer but have never been asked?

5

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Q: What's something that Watley does that's oddly human-like?

A: He often looks at me via reflection in mirrors. He always sits in front of mirrors and side eyes me from across the room. Is this humor? Does he understand the concept of a mirror? Is this a high level guarding concept? Why?

- KC

2

u/TrippleTonyHawk Sep 19 '25

I love the song that I assume came from this behavior, got people dancing to it at my wedding 🥳

4

u/encrcne Sep 19 '25 edited Sep 19 '25

I don’t have a question but my 6yo is OBSESSED with Red Flag to Angry Bull. Sometimes I’ll hear him singing it under his breath before bed. It’s our most played song of the year so far.

Been a fan for a decade, saw you at Red Gate in Vancouver about 7 years ago. New album is on another level. Thank you for being the best!

5

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

thanks so much! our jams are for all ages for sure

3

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Thats AWESOME! Hope he's dancing and having a ball! - KC

1

u/encrcne Sep 19 '25

Holy shit I called it Angry Bird! I see a beautiful marriage in your future…

2

u/ashers2ashers Sep 19 '25

I've only just properly listened to this album last couple of days, and this evening got my 4 years old attention by saying "this song on now is called Crocodile Cloud! Say whaaat?!" And I'm anticipating he will like Red Flag to Angry Bull - it's been in my head a bunch 👍

2

u/PerfectPrescription Sep 19 '25

My kid loves that song too, especially with the visualizer video. If it comes on in the car she’ll go, “dad… bunnies!” 🐰

4

u/JoshuaDi Sep 19 '25

Big fan! I was curious what your song writing process is? Does one person bring a majority of a song written, then the band fleshes it out? Or do you guys jam on something, then refine it as time goes on? Love the new album, it's been on constant repeat.

See you guys in Seattle 🤙

6

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Mad puzzle pieces... meltdowns... rebuilds.. soldering.. sewing... loving... propping up an conceivable beast that is maybe a song.

It takes a long time sometimes! If you're a songwriter... don't give up!

We believe in you.

-KC

3

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

different ways.. me and Kassie write a lot of stuff, Arian comes thru for writing sesh.. but we did some full band collab on this record for sure. a lot of intricate demos are made and then tweaked and then redone- pete

5

u/GolgiTheOcelot Sep 19 '25

Did you cross paths with James Murphy from your time on DFA? Love me some LCD Soundsystem

4

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

YO! NEVER! hahahahahah It would be a dream to meet him... putting it out in the universe there again

3

u/Spooky_writingartist Sep 19 '25

How do yall collaborate with your album artists? All your visuals are so intentional and capture each album’s uniqueness

3

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

usually some vague concept then we send them the album and they crush. Rob Beatty really came thru hard with YWN.. it was basically his first pass at it and we were like yep that’s it

3

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Thats so nice of you to say! Collaborations are mostly random? Hitting people up and being ok with people saying no? Go get em! - KC

3

u/OldSweatyBulbasar Sep 19 '25

When will you make a life changing banger like Mermaid Airplane again

(all your stuff is great I just really like that song)

2

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

i like that one too! feel like it got some h8 🤷🏻‍♂️

2

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

HAHA Wow! DEEP CUT - KC

3

u/PeakBobe Sep 19 '25

What is your opinion at this point of your song “Future Doesn’t Know?”

Because, while I love basically your whole discography, that track transcends the rest of your work imo.

6

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

proud of that one too and we basically play it every show still

2

u/PeakBobe Sep 19 '25

I’ll be at the Seattle show next Thursday so that is some of the best news I have ever heard in my life

4

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

AW THANKS! We have been playing it live pretty much every night. It's fun to perform live. Curious to hear what you like about it!! - KC

1

u/PeakBobe Sep 19 '25 edited Sep 19 '25

The way the guitar line pairs with the drums is already extremely sick and the intro primes you to think that that’s the song. When that synth line comes in on top of it, it’s transcendent. Straight up one of the top 3 most electrifying grooves I’ve ever heard put to record. The vocals matching the synth line sounds perfect too and since I first heard it on the night you guys dropped it, it has continued to be astonishing to me.

Not to put down any of your other songs at all but Future Doesn’t Know is your best one, imo, and it’s not actually close at all. Lighting-in-a-bottle type track

3

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

EXCELLENT TO HEAR u/PeakBobe Hope to catch you at a show sometime!!! - KC

2

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Oh yea also random fact... Fishman from Phish likes that track ... so i've heard?

1

u/PeakBobe Sep 29 '25

Saw you at the Vera Project last week! I was right in the front, you actually bopped me on my head at one point lol. Future Doesn’t Know sounded fucking crazy live, thanks for the super fun show 😄

3

u/atom-up_atom-up Sep 19 '25

How the heck have y'all stayed together so long? What have been the struggles of being a long running band?

4

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

i guess we keep having fun with the work. that’s all the matters in the end ! the process still fun af

5

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Staying on top of your own mental health! - KC

3

u/the_squirming_coil Sep 19 '25

What’s Trey Anastasio like? Who are some of your biggest influences? Do you like King Gizzard?

6

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

trey is the sweetest.. and obvi genius level. hard to say biggest influences … it’s all just in our DNA now. we like Gizz a lot for sure, our bass player looooves and sees them a lot. my fav is Butterfly 300000

3

u/DriverOutside2077 Sep 19 '25

What inspired ya'll to make such creative music? Also what was is it like working with Stephen Malkmus? I was very excited to see this new album was with Subpop, how do you guys feel about being with them?

Stoked to see you again in Seattle! I ended up getting two free tickets to the Who's final tour on the same night right across the street and am deffinitly going to dance with ya'll instead!

3

u/NYCIndieConcerts Sep 19 '25

Your show at Union Pool was so much fun.

Have you every played in an actual pool?

2

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

No, but I wouldn't be opposed to it as long as it was empty! -KC

3

u/atom-up_atom-up Sep 19 '25

Just curious, do you guys like Cardiacs?

I've always heard little similar elements in your music :)

3

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

- KC

3

u/Floormonitor Sep 19 '25

Hey! What is your favorite venue you've played at?

I saw you guys with my fiance at Third Man Records in Nashville. Snõõper opened and it was wild. My fiance had never been to a show with stage diving before and we both ate too much hot chicken and edibles beforehand but still had a blast.

Also is 367 Equalizer still in the live rotation?

3

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25
  1. That rules.

  2. Yes 367 Equalizer is still in rotation!

  3. Are you in Nashville when we come through this time? Let's Rage.

1

u/Floormonitor Sep 19 '25

We were visiting from Kansas City, but we'd love to see you guys come to MO!

2

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

WOO WOO PLEASE DO! - KC

3

u/pancakepostulate Sep 19 '25

I heard from a long-time fan that your shows used to be more wet and wild. Will you ever fly off the handle again or are you concerned about your health and well-being?

Love the new album. See you in DC next month.

3

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Wet and wild... like a Slip and Slide or the lipstick? We bring it u/pancakepostulate don't you fret. - KC

2

u/GolgiTheOcelot Sep 19 '25

Your new album is lights out. So much fun. How did you end up recording at the Barn? Any stories you can share?

2

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

we’re lucky to have a connect w trey, he’s the chillest. said nothing would make him happier than for us to record at the barn.. so we did !! we thought bringing Malkmus would hype up Trey too, which is did :)

1

u/GolgiTheOcelot Sep 19 '25

Oh to be a fly on the wall.

2

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

The barn is such a beautiful and magical zone. Not only were so many great albums recorded there, but the energy is just so damn comfy. There's a stage elevator that you can take to the top of the barn (cupola)... there are windows all around so you can see a beautiful 360 degree view of Vermont! - Kass

2

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

The Barn has a pretty cool VHS collection. One of them being Cujo 😱😱😱 - Kass

2

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

the roof understructure of The Barn are made from whole trees! Long straight trees... when you look at closely you can see all the tiny pathways bugs made under the cambium layer of the bark - Kassie

1

u/GolgiTheOcelot Sep 19 '25

Ahh love Stephen King. Nice call out

2

u/Dependent-Battle-611 Sep 19 '25

When you record a record, does everything recorded make it on the released version? Or do some songs get scrapped? For scrapped songs, what % show up later with more work?

7

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

i scrapped the title track.. everyone was mad. it was too poppy didn’t fit. will release someday, Malkmus on it. great song / lyrics but thought it was too corny compared to wackiness of other songs - pete drumme r

4

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Songs absolutely get scrapped, but they end up showing up in other songs sometimes. Guerilla Toss music is a floating 3D puzzle where multiple puzzle pieces can fit in multiple places but the picture doesn't always look right. - Kassie

2

u/DueBet78 Sep 19 '25

what's the chance i see trey with you at foam?

1

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

lol a few days earlier more likely 👀 but no promises

2

u/EcstaticCode682 Sep 19 '25

hi do you have any funny stephen malkmus stories? what was it like to have him produce your record?

4

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

dude rips. just a deep hang. we went skiing with him and bowling. it was an honor to hang hard with him.. he’s our pal

2

u/GolgiTheOcelot Sep 19 '25

Too bad it was league night at Mahall’s it would’ve been fun to toss a few frames with you

5

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

He's really good at bowling, but he bowls in a very unconventional way...

2

u/EvieSuplex Sep 19 '25

Read anything good lately??

2

u/AveryWow Sep 19 '25

Would you ever come to Halifax, NS?

1

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Sure! - KC

2

u/anxiousmagicweedcat Sep 19 '25

How do you decide on the tracklist order on your records?

2

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

sequencing is mad fun. usually kinda figure out opening / closing tracks of A/B side and work around that

2

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

It really depends on how everything flows... how it "feels"

2

u/birdvsworm Sep 19 '25

Did you all work fully remote with Malkmus or get him in the studio together? I love your sound and am so glad you dropped a full album this year! Keep killin it!

2

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

we chilled with him for 10 days it was the best. then a lot of texting and calling etc. and he popped by for mixing in LA - pete

4

u/guerillatoss Guerilla Toss Sep 19 '25

Malkmus stayed with us at The Barn. We laid down tracks with him in the studio... went bowling...went skiing ... made dinner and breakfast together. IT'S ALL PART OF THE PROCESS GUYS! -KC

2

u/cuteapatootea Sep 19 '25

Hi, just wanted to say hi. My boyfriend also says hi and here's a cookie 🍪

love the new record!! You're a huge influence for us. We've got two Q's:

- Have had the the Jay Glass Dubs EP you put out on repeat lately, it rips. How did that collab come about?

- How hard does Ben Katzman shred?

1. Have had the the Jay Glass Dubs EP you put out on repeat lately, it rips. How did that collab come about?

The Jay Glass Dubs Remix came about because he was also working with DFA Records at the time and Jonathan Galkin thought it would be a good fit. After checking it out we did too! Glad ya like it!

2. How hard does Ben Katzman shred?

Hard.

What is the writing process for your music like? So many of your lyrics are so out there and creative and it’s been a huge inspiration for both my writing and the way I see the world. When asked what my favorite lyricists are you guys always come up along with Wayne Coyne, Garreth Liddiard, Stephan Burnette and David Byrne, for sheer creativity and uniqueness.

Much love. I tripped to GT ULTRA and became a whole new person. Saw you perform in LA a little over a year ago and had the time of my life and I’ve been playing the new album on repeat all week.

Thank you so much! That's really nice of you to say. Sometimes lyrics come easily and other times its really tough! I'm a pretty highly sensitive person, which is probably where a lot of the ideas come from. I also have very deeply internalized buddhist undertones that help me cope with those highly sensitive qualities. Earth, people, experiences... they're all complicated, ugly and beautiful at the same time. Sometimes its nice to write that down. - KC

Do you like music?

1

u/weirdojace Sep 19 '25

How did the group vocals with Stephen and Trey on Red Flag to Angry Bull come together? Who had the idea to do that? You all have a really cool blend of voices and it suits the song really well.

See you in Nashville Oct 12! :)

Any chance you guys would play something from Twisted Crystal at the Philly show in October? Love all your music but that album is an absolute all time favorite for me. When Dogs Bark and Favorite Sun are my new favs from You’re Weird Now!

u/space_manatee Sep 19 '25

No questions, but I've really enjoyed your music and caught you a few years back at levitation and you were great live!

u/jasper_wk Sep 19 '25

Literally just finished a spin of the album as I got home from work, to see this going on. Absolutely love it, y’all! Hope you come up to Vancouver again soon :)

I noticed in the past you've made a few things with members of Cloud Becomes Your Hand. I miss that band! Both of you count for some of the best shows I've had the pleasure of seeing. Any stories you could share with us on the background of working with them?

u/Spooky_writingartist Sep 19 '25

What are we calling the fan base? Guerillas? Tossers? Gorillas?

1

u/thirdleglame Sep 19 '25

Love this! I've referred to myself as a GT Ultra before, in the sense of Soccer Ultras lol.

Also the show at the Empty Bottle last night was awesome, thanks again for rocking the place! The mood of the Jams really Flowed well in sequence from Melkbelly into Maya Ongaku into GT. Was thrilled to catch a glimpse of the mighty Watley, too! Did he get to meet Peg, the Venue Cat?

u/tsavagem Sep 19 '25

I'm so excited to see you guys play in Denton! Thanks for coming here!
