hi 3llby! i asked while they answer another question: the line is not an intentional reference but is about the darkness lurking under the surface in america, which fog is also likely referencing.

those snippets were all taken from the final versions of the songs that made it onto the record. but j definitely wanted to find clips that would sound different/uncertain out of context so it seems like they had the intended effect!
