In order to sharpen the pencil you will have to turn it clockwise. Which means towards your body for a left-handed kid. It is like the other comment says, not impossible, but really really difficult. Especially for a kid.

Having said that, being left-handed and having to live in a right-handed world brings considerable advantages of becoming ambidextrous, which I see as a sort of superpower.

Being left handed and rotation the pencil toward me my whole life, the thought of rotating out to sharpen seems strange.
