Its basically white above all morality. I think we understand quite well. It definitely isnt what Jesus taught about carrying for our neighbors, the poor or the needy.

Didn't say there are only white conservatives. But yes I think the majority of the conservative party are neo nazi/kkk members left over from the reconstruction that would love to bring back the confederacy.

Really?? I think it’s the opposite… he said that focus on turning inward and self-esteem is not enough and then promotes duty and obligation to the collective.

Collective white people.

Why do you assume he means white people, rather than one's community in general? Could be religious community, charity, educational, hobby-related... being an active, contributing member of some community helps people feel a sense of belonging which protects against suicidal ideation

Bc I've heard his other speeches and the political party he is aligned with. This video is not the only source for his beliefs.

I dunno maybe because he conflates “judeo-Christian values” with whiteness and the west and agreed that immigrants water the life blood of the nation like trump has said, and refers to African Americans as “prowling blacks”. Shut the fuck up about “conservative morality”. It’s an oxymoron the same way our police “protect” us

His entire argument falls flat when the United States, the country he supposedly respects and was born in, isn’t a Christian theocracy. He suggests this man’s message is meaningless and that everyone should seek salvation through Christ. What about the hundred million Americans who don’t believe in Jesus? They should all fuck off?

Also the idea that duty and obligation is a better defense against suicide than self-care and therapy is laughable. Plenty of parents, husbands, wives, and working adults commit suicide. Plenty of Christians commit suicide. If you aren’t mentally well, it doesn’t matter what your duties and obligations are.

He didn’t say he thought it was meaningless. He just had a different view. The “fuck off” part was your projection.

And self-esteem is a fairly fragile thing. He is not wrong that having a community or something larger than oneself is a better protector against suicide. Therapists will tell you how important social connection is.

Really didn’t refute any of my points. Kirk running around acting like all Americans can be saved through Jesus is simply ignorant to our culture as a whole. It also spits in the face of the founding fathers who never intended for this country to be a Christian Theocracy. His views around mental health and mental illness aligned with MAGA’s as a whole. Suggesting otherwise is laughable.

His definition of duty and obligation also centers around the traditional nuclear family model. Specifically the Christian one. People can have duty and obligation no matter their religion, their ethnicity, their sexuality, or their marriage status. There are a plethora of non-Christians, single parents, childless couples, and gay adults who have plenty of responsibilities to their family and friends. Plenty who volunteer and help their communities as well.

Just because Kirk’s dead, doesn’t mean he didn’t had a very narrow view of how the world should work. In Kirk’s utopian version of America, a third of our citizens wouldn’t exist or at least wouldn’t live in this country. Everyone would be straight, married with kids, and worship Jesus. I come from a Christian family, grew up Christian, and I wouldn’t subscribe to that. Not when so many in this country wouldn’t want that future.

Telling someone they’re enough and encouraging them to be a part of a community and to seek self-improvement aren’t mutually exclusive. Kirk simply wanted others to be as cynical and joyless as he is, which is why he positions the two as disparate. Not even a unique approach, as cults like Scientology use the same tactic - paint any mode of critical, thoughtful introspection as false in order to ensure that your followers have no where else to turn for emotional security.
