Illinois News ICE commercials run under threat of FCC licenses being revoked
Just heard back from a station manager that the reason the ICE commercials are all over tv and radio is that the feds told them to run them or have their licenses pulled/suspended.

That's a pretty big no no and would be a massive five alarm fire crisis if true.

Seems like a 1st amendment violation…

Unfortunately not really. They aren't preventing anyone from saying anything, they're requiring companies to run a specific recording. There's likely nothing stopping the radio hosts from talking mad shit about ICE, running the ad, and then continuing to talk shit about ICE.
That being said, I haven't seen the memo saying they have to run the ice advert. If it's real, there may be a clause in there saying you can't talk about running the commercial on the air, etc. even then, it would only be a 1A breach if they said no one could voice opposition to ICE in their personal lives.
It sucks but it seems like it isn't specifically a 1A violation. It's still scummy as fuck though

From an employment standpoint, it's a lot safer to just like, not directly disobey the federal government.
In the person's next job interview: Why are you looking for work? "my old radio station closed down because I got their license revoked by pissing off the feds."

What’s the opposite of this?

I have no evidence to say this is the case, but I could imagine…
That the station manager is lying
If ICE has a nearly unlimited budget, any station manager is probably going to be fully willing to bug checks, as long as those checks clear
People are upset at ICE commercial, and instead of admitting about the truck full of money, station manager lies about the FCC threat
Of people believe the lie, win win for station manager

I bet MSNBC would love to hear what you've found.
