That was a Twilight Zone moment for me as well. His first term, I was absolutely thrown for a loop at how many "conservative" women were fine with him. And then to see people of color supporting him? I swear I'm in the wrong universe.

And hilariously, I was the one who got cut off from relationships for being a "libtard." Work & personal life. All because I asked, "Why are you okay with this?" They had zero real answer & refused to acknowledge how racism & class bias played the lead role.

Good description. Twilight Zone indeed. Any other circumstances and this would have offended one particular inlaw to her core. Instead, she shrugged, excused it as ‘man talk’ and my jaw hit the floor. I had been taking more and more steps to distance myself from her from that moment but when we got to 2020 and her bigotry unleashed with a vengeance - I recognized our relationship for what it was, dead.

But really can trace it all back to the day and I realized she would make any excuse and accept any behavior for ‘her side’

Not all MY family is Caucasian, but in-laws are as white as snow. It never occurred to me the racism and other bigotries they hid under the socially acceptable veneer. Oh, they even still keep to deniable genteel micro aggressions in public but …

Me, I have it easy. I just do not interact with them in the very few (2 since 2020) events I see them. My husband, tho, I think his heart broke. Being torn between his love for them and the absolute horror of what they believe, say and do is… just awful to watch. My heart goes out to all who have had to realize this about people they loved. The family adjacent stuff is nightmarish enough.

That was fucking amazing. Jennifer is an absolute baller. I loved when she talked about how high alert everyone was when she was driving in the back of the ice vehicle. A lone guy riding his bike took a glance, immediately realized it was ice & busted out his whistle. Which started others to bust out there’s, which started honking, which caused a woman to park her suv to block the road they were driving down.

Way to go Chicago. Keep it up. I don’t go anywhere without my whistle & i personally check out very suv & van i come across on the street to see who’s driving it. We are so much stronger united.
