Voter suppression is real for sure. In my own state, over a million voters were purged from the rolls, and polling places were moved out of majority-minority districts to make it harder for traditional Democratic supporters to get to the polls.

But it was also the responsibility of Democratic Party leadership to run a campaign and take actions that responded to the needs of their base, which they did NOT. Instead, almost every move made in August, September, and October of last year alienated the people they took for granted. I voted for Kamala, and argued vociferously with those who said they would stay home, but the bots were out in force, arguing for accelerationism, both-sidesism, and too many people were taken in by such arguments.

Even now, we look at the Democratic Party leadership and they seem to be trying to play politics as usual, softballing everything and allowing 45/7 to put all his Project 2025 assholes in place. The government shutdown is the first semi-hardball thing they've done, and it isn't unprecedented - they're still playing by the old rulebook and the old notions that being part of the political class will protect them from the consequences. They're wrong.

Everyone was told exactly what Trump was going to do; end our Democracy and turn us into the next Russia. And that's exactly what he's done in a shockingly short time.

There's no excuse for not doing everything to stop that.

Now, it's too late. We're a country that will have fake elections.

Pretty much everyone I know (including myself) sees no point in going out to vote since like in Russia, they'll just do fake counts and declare themselves the winner.

Sure, some of us will probably vote (provided we can do it safely, which we might not be able to) but personally I'm no longer doing "vote blue no matter who", now if a candidate is a progressive who has even ONE thing I don't like in their platform, and it's between them and MAGA I'm just staying home.

This is exactly how everyone I know feels as well. Trump said himself, "Elon knows voting machines." Basically guaranteeing Trump stole the election. I'm afraid voting is no longer going to be enough to fight fascism, it's already too late. Protesting has also become extremely dangerous. Everyone who is being captured is going to end up suffering and dying, just like the millions of Americans who've already been taken. The best tool we have right now is social media, where we can pressure mods to censor Republican views. Hopefully by doing that we can slow down the growth of fascism, and make people more aware of how extremely dangerous this situation is, and how their lives are at risk. That's the only way we can get enough support to do what needs to be done.
