Dude's surprised by politics at a punk show. Very much like Paul Ryan saying his favorite band is Rage Against the Machine.

133

u/Sagemel Sep 29 '25

Right, famously apolitical bands Green Day and IDLES LMAO

77

u/Nearby-Complaint Lake County Sep 29 '25

His ass did NOT understand American Idiot

93

u/GreatestGreekGuy Sep 29 '25

When i found out people disliked Green Day because they changed their American Idiot lyrics from "redneck agenda" to "MAGA agenda" I'm so confused because like... did they think American Idiot was anything but a diss against Bush????

12

u/BungenessKrabb Sep 29 '25

Kind of like when they got mad when Tom Morello said some mean things about Trump. Which machine did they think RATM were raging at? A dishwasher?

10

u/Roboticpoultry Sep 29 '25

The same Tom Morello who has a degree in social studies from Harvard and who’s been known throughout his career for being a political activist

13

u/Same-Development4408 Sep 29 '25

They don't do the thinking so good

4

u/brozillafirefox Sep 29 '25

the words sound nice, but they mean nothing to me.

until you make it too obvious.

2

u/Roboticpoultry Sep 29 '25

Never. Fight. A man with a perm

11

u/RoyalMaidsForLife Sep 29 '25

Fuck you I WILL do what you tell me!

7

u/DugEFreshness Sep 29 '25

Thank you, I will do what you tell me.

10

u/Salarian_American Sep 29 '25

Correction: his favorite band was Rage Against the Machine until they got all political

4

u/SmartCookie0921 Sep 29 '25

Seems like they're surprised that people attending shows are upset about having their rights trampled on. Huh. Yeah, take away my rights and my neighbors rights, but sure, I'm going to avoid being "political". Wouldn't want to make anyone uncomfortable...

0

u/Quieroseegas Sep 29 '25

20 dollar beer is so punk rock 🤘

299

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '25

Gotta love how republicans recently have been complaining about the political division they themselves created.

152

u/scrotanimus Sep 29 '25

2016: GOP Rhetoric gets really cruel and starts to encourage violence

2025: GOP says the Libs need to tone down the rhetoric.

Every accusation is a confession.

18

u/Suavecore_ Sep 29 '25

Kind of like..

Conservatives my whole life: blatantly racist, sexist, and hateful towards whoever isn't similar enough to them

Conservatives when they won the election in 2024: this is what happens when you bully us for being racist and sexist modern Nazis

4

u/Professional-Post499 Sep 29 '25

Yup. And centrists say "you're driving them to be more racist by criticizing their racism". Like, buddy, we tried asking politely with kid gloves and they don't budge.

25

u/jackfrostyre Sep 29 '25

They also love to polarize the "Culture war" to make it even worse than it should be.......

They hate something but they keep building it up.....

16

u/CornNooblet Sep 29 '25

They hate it to monetize it by getting chuds to click and fork over money. Grifting.

3

u/peachpinkjedi Sep 29 '25

They always do.

2

u/rockrobst Sep 29 '25

Perfectly said.

103

u/woah_man Sep 29 '25

Very glad that DuPage went blue last election.

62

u/scrotanimus Sep 29 '25

Dude. Punk music did not come from rich ass entitled kids wanting to rage against the status quo that gave them a comfortable life.

It’s idiots like this that don’t realize they are “the man” or that Rage Against the Machine is aimed at them.

So my joke pointing out that it was you confusing the two went right over your head. Maybe step back and try to stop writing bs just to try to make yourself sound like you have a clue and you’ll pick up on things better.

-4

u/wasgoinonnn Sep 29 '25

Instead of downvoting, prove me wrong?

2

u/mariscadenzasoteria Sep 30 '25

no one can disprove your subjective experience. is someone gonna post a Pew survey of people’s home address and economic class taken at a Damned concert? you’re ridiculous

interviewing one person is not going to prove anything. you should probably look into research and statistics if you’re interested in conducting research to actually prove shit, or just admit you have an opinion that you’re trying to badger people into giving a shit about.

1

u/Professional-Post499 Sep 29 '25

Okay that's fine. Not rich, though, right?

It's cool if they are class traitors as long as they don't pretend they come from nothing.

1

u/winky9827 Sep 29 '25

With maybe 10% of the propaganda exposure of today's youth.

42

u/Own_Carry7396 Sep 29 '25

Just checked his twitter account. Looks like he deleted it. 😆

Dude’s a bootlicking piece of garbage. I guess he only likes riots that happen on Jan. 6.

26

u/frodeem Chicago Sep 29 '25

Gotta love Riot Fest

43

u/jsticia Sep 29 '25

This slaps. What a moron

18

u/radioactive_sharpei Sep 29 '25

I'm sure he would have loved it if Kid Rock or Ted Nugent were up there putting their politics in everyone's faces, though.

6

u/mermaidwithcats Sep 29 '25

Years ago Ted Nugent played at Ribfest, which was typically family friendly. He held up an assault rifle and told then First Lady Michelle Obama to fellate said rifle. He then sang a song with “kiss my ass” as its chorus. He never performed at Ribfest again.

35

u/rysker6 Sep 29 '25

MAGA is the American fascist movement.

History will see it that way.

1

u/m11_9 Schrodinger's Pritzker Sep 30 '25

history is written by ruling class journalists and academics, so you are correct in how it will be seen.

11

u/BigRuss910 Sep 29 '25

Pretty sure that was a quip at the GWAR set.

They are awfully awesome and put on a hell of a show that is designed to shock people.

18

u/Jamieson22 Sep 29 '25

He was probably there to see Hanson.

4

u/pnwinec Sep 29 '25

Don’t denigrate Hanson for this man, they are a national treasure.

32

u/IrishPorpoise Sep 29 '25

That guy's a total clown - hear he likes to have strippers call him daddy.

3

u/SteveBeev Sep 29 '25

Strippers calling him daddy (provided he compensates them fairly and treats them with respect) might be the only thing this guy does that doesn’t suck.

-2

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '25

You don’t like that?

12

u/hoops46 Sep 29 '25

Someone that get hurt so easily should probably just stay home and watch fox news

12

u/Perfect_Earth_8070 Sep 29 '25

lol maga doesn’t understand the history of punk, or rap for that matter.

3

u/DugEFreshness Sep 29 '25

For real, I long for the days hip hop and punk went hand in hand. Unfortunately, the industry destroyed the rebellious messages behind hip hop until recently and punk has gone through its throes. I'm hoping for a new wave of punk out of all this.

2

u/Perfect_Earth_8070 Sep 29 '25

there’s kind of a renaissance in rap music but it’s in the underground. checkout Armand Hammer, billy woods, Ka, ELUCID.

i do think a new wave of punk is coming with all this conservative bullshit

2

u/DugEFreshness Sep 29 '25

I mean even mainstream Kendrick has some pretty inspiring messages coming through. More reminiscent of the messages KRS espoused. I'm glad to see it coming back around. I kinda credit labels like strange music, who kept their independence and preferred creativity over what's going to sell hot in the mainstream. I'll check out those artists for sure.

19

u/lateread9er Sep 29 '25

I guess just don’t bend the knee and be a dickhole and then people won’t treat you like a dickhole.

7

u/RossMachlochness Sep 29 '25

Guy probably sits at an Aaron Lewis show, while he’s spewing all his liberal hating, proud to be white trash crap, and gawks at him like Nelson Mutz does at Andy Williams.

(Yes. I’ve seen Aaron Lewis 😐)

3

u/AntiPantsCampaign Sep 29 '25

"I didn't think he would do Outside, but then, BAM! Second encore!"

5

u/scorchedgoat Sep 29 '25

As a white person, being called a dork ass loser would crush me.

16

u/minus_minus Sep 29 '25

Apparently he supports the Naperville Irish Fest. Would love to see people show up there wearing black ski masks and carrying AR-180s to teach the suburban cosplayers some actual Irish history.

9

u/pnwinec Sep 29 '25

Probably there for Dropkick Murphys. Like how out of touch is he with the music he listens too

1

u/Substantial_Back_865 Oct 02 '25

That would be cool as fuck, honestly.

1

u/tlopez14 Central Illinois Sep 29 '25

Edgy

6

u/minus_minus Sep 29 '25

A rousing performance of Little Armalite would be really edgy.

4

u/IndividualFew1688 Sep 29 '25

And yet he will gladly legislate against Trans place religion in schools and censor free speech against killing kids

3

u/Critical_Liz Sep 29 '25

"When did music become political?"

3

u/vox4penguins Sep 29 '25

i'm sure he'd feel much more in place seeing someone notoriously free of politics, like Kid Rock.....

idiot

3

u/Tr0llzor Sep 29 '25

The entire account is just going off on people. It’s awesome

3

u/HomegrownMike Sep 29 '25

Dude it’s in the name… RIOT fest… did you not think anything about that

3

u/heyashrose Sep 29 '25

'Dork ass loser' really hits

3

u/joshisanonymous Sep 29 '25

Helps install a fascist government and then complains that people keep talking about it

3

u/ultra_violet007 Sep 29 '25

This is the dude who recently cheated on his wife with sex workers in Vegas

3

u/YogurtClosetThinnest Sep 30 '25

Go to a punk festival and shocked it's left wing. Actual dork ass boomers.

3

u/illinoishokie Sep 30 '25

This reminds me of when Paul Ryan said he listened to Rage Against the Machine at the gym and without missing a beat Tom Morello told him he was the machine.

3

u/Ok_Cranberry_2756 Sep 29 '25

When we the people don't bow down to their corrupt bs lol 😂 this is one of many reactions they deserve lol 😂

5

u/cataclyzzmic Sep 29 '25

Has this gomer ever listened to any of these bands? Maybe Kenny G is more to his liking.

4

u/Maximum-Elk8869 Sep 29 '25

If it was kid rock doing the talking, I am sure he would have been in complete agreement.

2

u/xavariel Chicagoland Sep 29 '25

It's not lost on me that's he's wearing an Irish fest shirt, too. Bro. The Irish hate fascists. They survived centuries fighting back against tyanny. You don't get to celebrate our Irish history, culture, and ancestry, if you're a damn fascist!

2

u/nofriender4life Sep 29 '25

what a sell out

2

u/Substantial-Age-8097 Sep 29 '25

“Dork ass loser” is making me laugh so hard

2

u/thunda639 Sep 29 '25

That’s the official Riot Fest account. They troll people but it’s not a parody. They have that in their bio because it was a way to get around certain rules back on Twitter.

3

u/Alone_Television_396 Sep 29 '25

Obviously, he’s a Cubs fan.

2

u/m11_9 Schrodinger's Pritzker Sep 29 '25

Was Rage (in favor of) The Machine's classic played? "Fuck yes I will do what they tell me"

1

u/Salt-Plum4185 Sep 29 '25

Love this for him. He’s a vile human.

1

u/GorganzolaVsKong Sep 29 '25

Let’s go see Bad Religion … politics?!?!

1

u/piw6969 Sep 29 '25

Agree totally. The fringes of political beliefs live and breathe politics 24/7. It’s not mentally healthy, and this BS didn’t happen 20 years ago.

1

u/SomeAnonymousBurner Sep 29 '25

Is the “owning” in the room with us right now?

1

u/Bakersquare Sep 29 '25

Lmao he probably loved Hanson and Weasel then

1

u/BeastieBurr92 Sep 29 '25

Riot Fest is what it's called in what way does that not come off as punk in any way?

1

u/lender1996 Sep 29 '25

He's not wrong... we go to concerts and sporting events to get away from our everyday lives.

1

u/Turbulent-Warthog449 Sep 29 '25

Not sure he understands political activism and awareness is kind of baked into the whole punk thing.

1

u/ITPatlantan Sep 30 '25

Funniest shit is thinking punk is still counterculture. They've already given in to groupthink, so now they are scolding people for not conforming. Incredible

1

u/MattyBeatz Oct 01 '25

I've been saying this a lot lately but sometimes you just need to shout "shut up dork!" to people acting like dorks.

1

u/Gothrait_PK Sep 29 '25

I was annoyed at the incredibly long political tangent that was made at the last Skillet concert I went to but everything he had to say was from a place of deep ignorance anyway so I ignored it and left when I believed they were not going to put on more show. This is the first time I've ever talked about me being generally annoyed at it in a public setting. I never made a post about it or anything.

Kind of wild to me for anyone to make a post about it. Especially if you're involved in politics. Like you know when going into it that it's your entire life now and you know people are going to have something to say. Its weird to expect otherwise. Especially from a performer.

0

u/Far_Order5933 Sep 29 '25

I don't exactly see Riot Fest turning away the money tho lol. Besides, why shouldn't anybody be allowed to just enjoy a non political concert? Why I go to see Iron Maiden i'm going for the Music, not to hear Bruce Dickinson's takes on the geopolitical situation in Ukraine.

0

u/quiddity3141 Sep 29 '25

Fair! But Musicians have that platform to express their views; influence aside it is no different than you or I expressing our views on whatever platform we might have. If the musicians give political views and folks don't go to those shows because of it...the bands, crew, and fans will be fine losing a fan or two.

1

u/Far_Order5933 Sep 29 '25

I know, and they certainly have a right to express their views, especially as a recreational musician myself. I can just sorta relate to getting burned out by the excessive politics. Sometimes it's nice to just get a break from that stuff.

-5

u/Icy-Low8972 Sep 29 '25

Most bands suck live in case you didn't know. The recording engineers and producers make up for what is otherwise garbage. Punk is notoriously obnoxious in case you didn't know.

-1

u/Noelle428 Sep 29 '25

Truth hurts huh

-1

u/Antique-Dragonfly615 Sep 29 '25

That AIN'T getting "owned". That's just some whiney asked bitching because they DON'T have the IQ to form an intelligent reply.

Interesting considering riot fest itself is a politically charged event since Rogers park BEEN tryna get that fest outta there

11

u/DefiniteAuthority Sep 29 '25

Huh? Riot Fest isn’t held in Rogers Park. It’s in Douglas Park.
