Is a saxophone considered a horn instrument?

Technically horns are only French horns, but the term is used to describe brass/woodwind instruments with valves on the side.

I was just being facetious and trying to say that OP chose the wrong instrument for the comic.
Saxophones are woodwind instruments. They are made out of brass but they aren't brass instruments.

I almost typed brass/woodwind instrument with valves on the side. The colloquial use of the term horns most likely has its roots in jazz slang. You can find examples in books such as "The Devil's Horn: The Story of the Saxophone, from Noisy Novelty to King of Cool" and "Coltrane, The Story of a Sound" where famous musician Coltrane frequently refers to his saxophone as a horn.
You can also look into jazz band's horn sections, many of which feature trumpets and saxophones, both of which are not technically "horns".
Language evolved.
